PER vs SYD Match Prediction - Dec 17, 2022

The Perth Scorchers will be looking to begin their latest campaign in the Big Bash League on a positive note as it takes on the Sydney Sixers in match number 6 on Saturday.

The Scorchers are the defending champions for this season and they won the Finals by defeating the Sixers by a huge margin of 79 runs. This means that the Scorchers start this match as the favorites to win, but the Sixers will be looking to avenge their humiliating loss.

PER vs SYD Team Previews

Perth Scorchers

As mentioned earlier, the Scorchers are the reigning champions of the BBL. Their win in BBL 11 was their 4th title, making them the most successful franchise in the League’s history.

The Scorchers’ squad looks much different from the last season, as they had to let go of some of their top international performers including Mitchell Marsh, Phil Salt, and Laurie Evans. However, the team has brought in some young blood to boost their prowess.

Cameron Green, who scored consecutive half-centuries in India earlier this year, and Aaron Hardie, who was excellent in the Sheffield Shield tournament last season, have made their way into the squad, which also has the likes of Cameron Bancroft, Josh Inglis, and Adam Lyth. But perhaps the biggest addition to the batting is Faf du Plessis, who is in for 7 matches. Stephen Eskinazi has an excellent T20 record in England, where he has scored close to 2000 runs.

The bowling will rely on the experience of veterans like Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, and Peter Hatzoglou.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers are the second most successful franchise after the Scorchers, winning the title on 3 occasions. They have been consistent in their performance throughout the years, and have reached the Finals in each of the last 3 seasons.

However, the Sixers weren’t up to the task in their opening game on Wednesday, losing against the Adelaide Strikers by a whopping 51 runs. Nevertheless, these are early days in the tournament and the Sixers will be looking to bounce back against their perennial rivals. The squad is largely untouched from what it was in the last season as they have managed to retain most of their key players.

One big change is the inclusion of start batsman Steve Smith, who will be joining the squad in January. One of the biggest reasons for the Sixers’ success has been their all-rounders, and they have once again excelled in that department. Some of the key names include captain Moises Henriques, Dan Christian, Sean Abbott, and Hayden Kerr.

The inclusion of Izharulhaq Naveed will further bolster the spin-heavy bowling attack, which already boasts players like Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, and Steve O’Keefe.

Pitch and Conditions

The Perth Stadium is a relatively new ground, and one of the biggest stadiums in Australia. The pitch is flat and excellent to bat on, and we can expect the batsmen to score freely here. That said, the quicker bowlers will get some assistance due to the good bounce and windy weather.

The average first innings score here is around 170, which can be a bit difficult to chase. The weather is expected to be dry and sunny, with temperatures in the evening remaining between 23-25 degrees Celsius.

PER vs SYD Betting Tips

With the Scorchers and the Sixers being two of the most successful teams in BBL history, we will surely have a closely fought-match on our hands. We will be backing the home team to win this one as they are better placed to exploit the ground conditions. The team has several seamers and some quality spinners too. The batting too looks pretty strong due to the presence of Faf du Plessis and Adam Lyth.
