NZW vs PAKW Team Previews

New Zealand Women

After a shoddy performance in the T20s, the hosts will be happy that they scored a thrilling win in the 2nd ODI played on Friday and have bagged the ODI series. They will now go into this match with a lot of confidence and win the match.

Suzie Bates, who scored a brilliant century in the first match, followed it up with another scintillating knock of 74 runs. Her 142-run partnership with Maddy Green for the 3rd wicket was instrumental in helping the hosts chase the target of 221 on a tricky pitch.

Green herself was in fine touch, top-scoring for the team with 83 runs. She will once again be a vital cog in the middle order. There is plenty of firepower in New Zealand’s batting, including the likes of Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, and Georgia Plimmer.

In the bowling department, Devine has led her team from the front, picking up 4 wickets in the 2 matches so far. She will be supported by Lea Tahuhu, Hannah Rowe, and Molly Penfold in the seam attack. Coming to the spin department, Amelia Kerr and Fran Jonas have done a decent job, picking up 3 wickets each.

Pakistan Women

Pakistan W came tantalizingly close to leveling the series on Friday. However, luck did not favor them as the team ended up on the losing side.

It was a failure of the top order batting as Pakistan were 4 wickets from with just 35 runs on the board. Nevertheless, Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali are quality openers and will look to give the team a strong start in this match.

Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz continue to struggle in the middle order as both were dismissed for single-digit scores. As the return of Nida Dar remains doubtful, there will be added pressure on the middle-order batters including Natalia Pervaiz and Najiha Alvi. Stand-in captain Fatima scored a brilliant 90 even as wickets continued to fall around her to get her team to a respectable total.

She also picked up 2 wickets, further cementing her all-round credentials. However, she remains the only quality seamer on the team in the absence of Diana Baig. Ghulam Fatima bowled a brilliant spell in the last match, picking up 4 wickets for 47 runs.

She will lead the spin attack alongside Umm-e-Hani, Nashra Sandhu, and Sadia Iqbal.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Hagley Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. The ball does swing and seam around, making life difficult for the batters, especially when the ball is new. However, as the ball gets softer, it does get a bit easier to play the shots. A score of around 250 is a par score on this surface. The spinners will get some turn in the second half.

The weather will remain overcast for most of the day with temperatures of between 15 to 18 degrees.

NZW vs PAKW Betting Tips

New Zealand W have been excellent in the ODIs so far. While they did receive a few hiccups in the last match, they managed to get over the line and should be feeling confident to do so again. Pakistan W has nothing to lose now and will play a fearless brand of cricket. We are expecting another close contest.

The pitch at the Hagley Oval is well-balanced, allowing the batters to score as the ball gets older. The last match saw 3 half-centuries, of which 2 scores were 83 or above. As both teams have some in-form batters, we are expecting a big inning from at least one of them.

Bismah Maroof is going through a lean patch of late. She has failed to cross the 15-run mark in each of her last 5 ODIs and her highest score on this tour, including the T20s, is 21. We expect her struggles to continue.
