NZW vs PAKW Team Previews

New Zealand Women

After facing a humiliating defeat in the T20 format, the White Ferns seemed to have bounced back in the 50-over format as they scored a resounding win in the first ODI. As a result, they are now tied at points with Pakistan W and SA W in the ongoing ICC Women’s championship.

It was a brilliant batting performance by the top order as the hosts piled up a massive total of 365 runs. Suzie Bates was in a particularly belligerent mood as she slammed her first century of this cycle. Her partnership of 165 runs with fellow opener Bernadine Bezuidenhout laid a strong foundation for the likes of Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine to build on.

With each of the top 4 batters scoring 50+ runs, the batting looks in fine form and will look to put up yet another big total in this match. Coming to the bowling, the seam attack consists of Lea Tahuhu, Jess Kerr, and Hannah Rowe. The trio picked up 5 wickets between them and was also quite economical.

Amelia Kerr displayed an excellent performance, scoring 83 runs and also picking up 3 wickets. Overall, the hosts look to be in fine form and will hope to avenge the T20 series loss.

Pakistan Women

Pakistan W will be very disappointed with their performance in the opening ODI. They must now play out of their skins to save the series.

Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen gave the team a steady start as the team set out to chase a mammoth target. Ameen was once again in brilliant form as she scored a century, her third of the Women’s Championship. She will be the key batter for the visitors if they want to win here.

Nida Dar was struck in the face while bowling and her participation in the remainder of the series is in doubt. This puts extra scoring pressure on Bismah Maroof, Aliya Riaz, and Sadaf Shamas. The visitors do have some depth in their batting thanks to the presence of all-rounders Omaima Sohail and Fatima Sana. But neither of them has been consistent with the bat.

The latter however has picked up 17 wickets in her last 11 matches and will lead the seam attack. The spin department consists of Nashra Sandhu, Umm-e-Hani, and Ghulam Fatima.

NZW vs PAKW Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Hagley Oval is well-balanced. The surface is hard and provides a good amount of pace and bounce. There is some grass on the pitch, allowing the ball to skid and come onto the bat. However, the batters will need to be careful as the ball does swing, especially when it is new.

The team batting first will look to score over 250 runs.

The spinners will be rewarded provided they are disciplined with their line and length.

The opening pair of Suzie Bates and Bernadine Bezuidenhout put up a strong partnership of 165 runs in the opening game. Both of them were in good touch. As they face a depleted bowling line-up of the visitors, we are backing New Zealand to put up the bigger opening partnership.
