NZ vs PAK Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 17, 2024

New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the T20 series and is now on the cusp of sealing the series victory. There are no more chances left for Pakistan and while a series loss is not the end of the world, they would still like to taste some success with the new management, players, and style of play that they have adopted.

New Zealand vs Pakistan T20 Head to Head

New Zealand has won 10 out of the 16 T20 matches it has played against Pakistan at home. Importantly, it has now won the previous four completed matches against Pakistan in a row and seems to have a hold over it.

NZ vs PAK Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand has enjoyed complete dominance over Pakistan with the bat and while it has been pushed with the ball, both margins of victory have been quite comfortable. For the third match, New Zealand will be without Kane Williamson who picked up a slight biggle and will probably bring in Tim Seifert.

The batting exploits of Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Daryll Mitchell, and Mark Chapman have been enough to allow New Zealand to get to big totals in both matches. It is clear that New Zealand trusts its batting depth and is willing to attack from the very first ball.

Finn Allen, Devon Conway, and Daryll Mitchell are once again the batters to watch out for.

The bowling attack may see a small change as Lockie Ferguson is now available for selection. He may end up replacing the impressive Ben Sears for this match. With Southee and Milne for support, New Zealand has a fast-bowling trio is can depend on.

Dunedin is also a venue where the spinners have played an important role in the past. Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, and even Glenn Phillips could be called on to play a part.

Pakistan

Pakistan's performances have been quite disappointing in the first two matches. They have shown an attempt to be aggressive but have not quite nailed down their strategy. Surprisingly, it has been their bowling that has been the weak link.

We expect Zaman Khan and Mohammad Nawaz to find a place in the playing eleven for this next match. Mohammad Wasim Jr. may also be considered since he is also a pretty handy batter. Theoretically, that could give Pakistan batting down till number 9.

Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan, and Babar Azam will be the three players to set the tone for Pakistan. So far, only Babar has managed to score runs with any sort of consistency and that highlights his brilliance. Iftikhar Ahmed and Azam Khan will be under a bit of pressure to perform in this match after their twin failures.

Pakistan has been good with the bat without being brilliant. The question it has to answer is about its bowling. Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi have picked up wickets in both matches but late in the inning when the impact of those wickets is lesser.

Zaman Khan could be a specialist death bowling option with Mohammad Wasim Jr the middle-over enforcer. Mohammad Nawaz as the sole spinner could be a big big problem for Pakistan. He has crumbled under pressure before and could struggle once more.

NZ vs PAK Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. The toss does not seem to have a big bearing on the outcome of the matches as the pitch remains good for batting throughout.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted in Dunedin on match day and that is an excellent thing! We should hopefully have an uninterrupted match. The surface will be good for batting. A run rate of nearly 10 runs an over has been the norm in the two previous T20 internationals held at the venue.

That means teams batting first will aim for 200-210 to be competitive.

NZ vs PAK Betting Tips

We think New Zealand has a good chance of going 3-0 up in the series by winning this match. Pakistan is in disarray and another raft of changes could further increase the confusion in the camp. There is talent in the Pakistani camp and they are bound to win one match in the series at some time but for the time being, we are happy to bet on the better team, which is clearly New Zealand.

Bet on New Zealand to win.

With an average run-rate of 10 runs an over at Dunedin, we think the 3rd T20 between New Zealand and Pakistan could be very high scoring. The line being offered by Parimatch seems a bit low and we can take advantage of that by betting Over 345.5 runs in the match.

Finn Allen has been in brilliant form and takes on the bowling from the very first ball. He may not get a big score but if he stays at the crease for a few deliveries, he will try to hit a six. Happy to take a punt on him in current form.

New Zealand Total Runs 1-10 Overs

    Over 80.5 (1.71)

Once again, the line being offered for this sessions bet is low. The average run rate is nearly 10 an over and with New Zealand attacking from the start, it should be able to get more than 80.5 runs in this match as well. 71% return on your stake for this bet is fantastic value.
