MLSW vs SYDW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Nov 08, 2023

There’s quite a bit of flux happening in the WBBL table right now, as the Sixers jumped from last place up to 6th (2-5), while the Stars occupy the second-last spot (2-5) just ahead of the Renegades. Although not impossible, it will be very difficult for the likes of the Sixers and Stars to reach the top places for a playoff position.

Melbourne Stars Women vs. Sydney Sixers Women will be played at the Jubilee Park, Melbourne, on November 8th. Make sure you've checked the best betting apps for making a bet on your smartphone.

MLSW vs SYDW Team Previews

Melbourne Stars Women

The Stars won their very first game against the Sixers and one more versus the Scorchers, but they’ve been quite a disappointment in their other matches this season.

Lanning is the top scorer with 171, but her games are all over the place and she’s hard to rely on, with her last three matches including scores of 5, 75, and 17. She’s capable of being the best player in every match, but we wish she’d be more consistent. Sutherland’s 152 has been helpful but she’s yet to make a half-century, despite coming very close twice. Capsey (143) and Dunkley (84) are doing fine with their batting, yet the team needs far more from opener Reid (26 runs in 3 games) and Bouchier, who has 92 runs in total but only 19 in her last 4 games.

There have been a few glimpses of solid bowling in this team, as Sutherland has 11/184 (7.77 ER) and Day (9/175) have helped out, but there’s not nearly enough backup for these two. Garth’s 4/164 is way below what she’s capable of bowling, and we still don’t get why Moloney keeps bowling so many overs each game, as she’s not in form with 1/195 (9.28 ER).

Sydney Sixers Women

The Sixers had a good win against the Renegades, but we’re not ready to claim that they’re back to their best. There are a lot of improvements to be made and we’re still unsure about this team to win multiple games in a row.

Bates (50 runs) and Burns (77 runs) have continued to fall short of predictions and not impacted the outcome of the innings in seven games. Gardner (147 runs) has sporadic strong performances, but her consistency and scores are erratic at best.

Tryon has displayed flashes of excellent batting (154 runs), but the only player the team can really trust is Perry with 247 and an average of 49.40. Apart from one game of 14 runs, Perry has scored above 40 runs in her last 5 matches. She's basically the one player that the Stars need to remove quickly.

Even if there have been some decent bowling moments here and there, the level of competitiveness is still too low for the Sixers. Gardner has bowled the best with 13/194 (7.46 ER) and she's picking up roughly 2 wickets per game. Cheatle's 13 wickets is good but she's still allowing far too many runs (206). Somehow, Perry picked up 5 wickets in the match against the Renegades, but she's not typically a bowler and this was the only game she's bowled in.

MLSW vs SYDW Toss Prediction

We expect the captain winning the toss to bat first to get the most out of this pitch that is perfect for shot-making.

Pitch and Conditions

The Jubilee Park isn’t used so often for big WBBL matches, but it’s usually a good batting wicket, as the ball doesn’t tend to move or bounce so much. The boundaries are slightly smaller than other grounds, too, so there’s a good chance for big hitters.

MLSW vs SYDW Betting Tips

Not the easiest match to predict, but based on the Satbet odds, we’ll go with the Stars. There’s better money to be made if choosing Melbourne, and the Stars did already beat the Sixers this year by 2 runs. Neither team is super reliable at the moment, but the Sixers’ bowling attack isn’t amazing, and we doubt Perry is going to have 5 wickets in every match. The Stars’ batting lineup of Lanning, Sutherland, and Capsey are the ones who can do the most damage, and the team overall has a bit more talent.

Bet on the Melbourne Stars to win.

Those are some pretty nice odds for this bet. The Stars have a good team that can handle a Sixers team that hasn't played well this season. Now all that the Stars need is some luck to win the toss.

It's probably a choice between Sutherland and Lanning, but the odds for Sutherland are much more exciting and there's a chance of a big money return. Lanning can score big but is quite inconsistent, whereas Sutherland is more likely to score at least close to a half-century or better.

Sutherland is great with the ball, but the odds are better for Day in this match. She has 9/175 for the season and is reliable for at least 2 wickets per game, and hopefully she can destroy some Sixers batters who are not playing well at the moment.
