MLR vs PER Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades didn’t have the best of starts this season as they were defeated by the Sydney Sixers in their opening fixture. However, these are early days in the tournament and the team will look to bounce back.

The Renegades have a pretty strong batting line-up and will depend on that to deliver the goods. Nic Maddinson and Joe Clarke are likely to open the batting for them. Jake Fraser-McGurk's excellent form from the domestic circuit has spilled over to the T20s as he scored 48 runs.

All-rounder Will Sutherland put up an excellent show with the bat, scoring 51 runs, albeit for a losing cause. He also bowled a good spell, picking up 2 wickets for 21 runs.

He will join Tom Rogers and Kane Richardson in the seam attack, while Mujeeb ur Rahman and Adam Zampa constitute the spin department.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers clinched their record-extending 5th title in February earlier this year. Boasting a star-studded squad, the team will look to extend their winning streak to this season too. That said, the team has made some changes to its squad and hopes that it will have a positive impact on their performance.

Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Green, and Peter Hatzoglou have all bid adieu to the Scorchers and have left space for some upcoming talent to shine through. Liam Haskett and Hamish McKenzie are set to make their BBL debut, and Sam Whiteman returns to the Scorchers’ fold after spending two seasons with Sydney Thunder.

Aaron Hardie, who was the top run-getter of the tournament in BBL 12 will once again be a vital cog in the team’s batting. Josh Inglis was an integral part of the World Cup-winning squad and will feature in the middle order.

Coming to the bowling,Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye are likely to open the attack with the new ball, while Jason Behrendorff plays a supporting role. The spin department is likely to be a weakness for the Scorchers, especially with Ashton Agar nursing a calf injury.

MLR vs PER Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Simmonds Stadium is well-balanced and we can expect a good contest between the bat and the ball. The ball does seam and move around a bit, especially when it is new, and the batsmen will need to be a bit cautious. However, as the ball gets older, it does get easier to bat on. The team batting first will look to score at least 150 runs to give the bowlers something to play with.

The weather is likely to be overcast throughout the day with temperatures of around 17 degrees Celsius.

The pitch at the Simmonds Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on and there is some amount of help for the bowlers throughout the match. Also, the conditions are expected to be overcast, further aiding the seamers. As both teams have some quality bowlers playing for them, we predict a low-scoring encounter.

Fraser-McGurk is in excellent form of late. He recently scored the fastest century in List-A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 29 deliveries. He played an excellent knock of 48 in the match against the Sixers and we are backing him to play another good inning.

As mentioned earlier, the pitch isn’t the easiest to bat on. The batsmen will find it a bit difficult to get after the bowlers and we are unlikely to have a high-scoring over.
