After making it to the knockouts for 3 consecutive seasons, the Adelaide Strikers had a disappointing outing last time around as they finished 7th on the points table. As they embark on a fresh journey, the Strikers will hope to make a winning start.
At the outset, the Strikers’ prospects received a significant setback as their talismanic spinner Rashid Khan has pulled out for the entire season due to an injury, and that undoubtedly will be a big void to fill. With that fact set aside, the Strikers are still a dangerous team, especially in their backyard.
They have a strong batting unit, thanks to the presence of Chris Lynn and Matt Short at the top of the order. They will be joined by D’Arcy Short, who comes in from the Hobart Hurricanes. The others in the line-up include Jake Weatherald, Jamie Overton, and Adam Hose.
There will be added pressure on the two specialist spinners, Ben Manteti and Cameron Boyce to perform well in the absence of Rashid Khan. Brisbane Heat secured a huge win against the Melbourne Stars in the season opener, that not only gave them 2 points but also had a great impact on the NRR. However, the Strikers are likely to prove a tough opponent and the visitors will need to be at the top of their game.
Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne were among the runs on Thursday night but their participation in Saturday’s game is doubtful due to the upcoming Test match with Pakistan. Colin Munro was in a belligerent mood as he scored an unbeaten 99 to power his team to a massive total.
