IND vs AFG Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 14, 2024

India continued its unbeaten run against Afghanistan in T20 cricket as it took a 1-0 lead quite convincingly. The second match will be held in Indore and will also feature Virat Kohli, who is back with the team. Afghanistan may also look to tweak its balance just a bit to give itself some extra firepower.

India vs Afghanistan T20 Head to Head

India has now won all six of its completed T20 matches against Afghanistan. The last three of those matches have come by a massive margin and show a consistent domination of the Afghan team.

IND vs AFG Team Previews

India

India will welcome back Virat Kohli for this match and it looks like Shubman Gill will make way, especially now that Shivam Dube has made a match-winning contribution in the previous match. The move will be tough on Gill but there is no other way to fit Kohli in the top-3 after the coach has publicly backed Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India's batting is quite strong even but may struggle to find momentum against spin. Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh all add a lot of explosive left-handedness to the Indian team while Jitesh Sharma continues to impress every opportunity that he gets.

Axar Patel is a solid number seven and gives India a bit of cushion in terms of depth.

India's bowling was quite impressive in the opening match. Only Ravi Bishnoi struggled a bit in the cold while all the others bowled well. Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar were the standout bowlers in the first match and could continue to play a leading role in this next match.

India may choose to bring back Kuldeep Yadav in place of Ravi Bishnoi for this match.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has a strong bowling attack but it struggled to find answers to Shivam Dube in the previous match. They tried bowling short to him but did not have the pace to carry out that plan. Not having Rashid Khan was a big blow but we believe they shot themselves in the foot by not picking Noor Ahmed.

Mujeeb ur Rahman was extremely impressive with the ball. He bowled a maiden over, took two wickets, and gave away just 21 runs. At the other end of the spectrum, Naveen ul Haq gave away 43 runs in 3.3 overs and did not pick up a single wicket.

Afghanistan looked short of ideas and will need a lot more from its bowlers in this match.

A part of the problem for Afghanistan is that their batters do not get enough runs against quality sides. Ibramhim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 50 runs without losing a wicket, an excellent start but the players to follow could not capitalize.

There was also a lot of conservatism in the manner of play. This indicates that Afghanistan does not have the confidence in its own batting lineup to take the risks needed. Mohammad Nabi played a sparkling inning of 42 and will perhaps be an example for the others to follow.

Afghanistan looked way short of where it needed to be to challenge India and we don't think things are going to improve in a high-scoring venue like Indore.

IND vs AFG Toss Prediction

The toss may not have a lot of bearing on the outcome of the game but we do think that the team that wins the toss will want to bat first.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

Clear weather and comfortable temperatures are expected in Indore on match day. There should be absolutely no weather-related interruptions.

The pitch at Indore should be an absolute batting paradise. The ball will come on nicely to the bat, the size of the ground is small, and the outfield will be very fast. All of this means that you can expect a higher-scoring match than the first game.

We think 200 is the least that teams batting first will have to aim for.

IND vs AFG Betting Tips

We are going to stick with India in this match as well even though the odds are quite poor. Afghanistan did not impress in the first match and while it has the players to be able to pull off an upset, the jump in performance required from the previous match is quite high and the Afghans may struggle to do so.

Bet on India to win.
