HAM vs GLA Match Prediction - Jun 30, 2023

Hampshire is looking steady in third place with 7-5 (14 points), but it’s also important to remember that they finished in fourth place last season, yet went on to win the championship. They’ve had two victories out of their last five games, but the wins over Essex and Surrey are crucial.

Glamorgan is pretty much done for the season in 6th place with 5-7 (10 points), but it’s been dire after winning just one game out of their last seven matches. The team is certainly outmatched by Hampshire, but can put up a good fight.

Hampshire vs. Glamorgan will take place at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, on June 30th. Want to check more games? See all our betting odds.

HAM vs GLA Team Previews

Hampshire

Sometimes, just Vince and McDermott is enough to win a game, as the two almost single-handedly defeated Surrey after scoring 62 and 50, respectively. Albert scored 7 runs, of course, but the credit lies elsewhere.

Vince has been largely unstoppable at the crease this season, as he’s scored 567 runs (second-most behind Bell-Drummond) and has a ridiculous average of 70.87. He does have the occasional low score, but more often than not, he’s scoring big totals of 35, 76, and 62* in recent games.

McDermott (317) and Weatherley (252) are unpredictable with wildly varying scores, but when they support Vince, Hampshire is hard to defeat.

Although Wood hasn’t been quite the bowler we expected this season (9/276), Hampshire’s bowling has been effective enough with other players stepping up. Ellis (16/313), Turner (15/183), and Dawson (13/292) are all fairly even in terms of performance, but Turner is perhaps the most impressive because he’s played in five fewer matches than Ellis.

Hampshire Playing 11

Ben McDermott, James Vince, Tom Prest, Joe Weatherley, Ross Whiteley, James Fuller, Liam Dawson, Benny Howell, Chris Wood, Nathan Ellis, John Turner.

Glamorgan

Glamorgan certainly need some help, but we’re not sure where it’s going to come from, after losing three games in a row, the team is probably just waiting for the season to end.

Cooke (408 runs) did have a big century of 113* earlier in the season, but he’s been quite unspectacular since then, with just 20 runs in his last two games. Ingram (329) has had a few good moments and Northeast (313) has been better in the second half of the season with performances of 44 and 60. Still, these batters are not enough for Glamorgan to defeat a better opponent.

There has been some decent bowling, particularly from McIlroy (18/420) and Hatzoglou (14/387), but as you can see, both aren’t effective enough in preventing runs, and there have been several games in a row without a wicket. In a top-flight league like the T20 Blast, there’s simply no room for bad games this late in the season.

Glamorgan Playing 11

Sam Northeast, Kiran Carlson, William Smale, Colin Ingram, Chris Cooke, Tom Bevan, Andy Gorvin, Ruaidhri Smith, Prem Sisodiya, Peter Hatzoglou, Jamie McIlroy.

HAM vs GLA Toss Prediction

Batting first is typically the better option here, as bowling can speed up in the second innings. The team batting first has won 41/63 times here for T20 games, and it’s not unusual to see scores of around 220.

Pitch and Conditions

The Rose Bowl surface can be slower earlier on in the day, which can force batters to make easy mistakes. Spinners have been known to get a lot of movement and turn, but experienced batters can score a lot once they’ve figured out the path of the ball.

HAM vs GLA Betting Tips

Glamorgan have beaten Hampshire at times, but the last was way back in 2019, so it’s clear that this matchup certainly favours Hampshire. The 10Cric odds for Hampshire are not particularly exciting, but we really can’t find a reason to bet on Glamorgan. No player is really excelling with bat or ball, and it’s too tough to bowl against Vince and McDermott when they’re in the zone.

Bet on Hampshire to win.

Vince has 6 games with 50 runs, so it's never a bad idea to bet on him scoring another. With a huge 567 runs this season, he's been batting really well in recent games, with 76 against a tough team like Essex. He can easily make a half-century and he's batting in the top-order.

    Hampshire Top Bowler: Liam Dawson

Although Ellis and Turner have more wickets, Dawson's odds are more exciting and he's not far behind them with 13/292 for the season. It's been a while since he had a great match, but the opportunity is there against Glamorgan.

    Top Batter Glamorgan: Sam Northeast

    9/4

He's been solid lately and the odds are pretty good right now. Northeast has 313 runs for the season, but his recent efforts of 44 and 60 are interesting. He might not score enough to win Glamorgan the match, but the talent is there to score 60-70 again.
