Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders will contest the 2023 Caribbean Premier League's Qualifier 1 fixture. Guyana and Trinbago ended the group stage of this season's CPL in first and second position, respectively. The winner of this match will advance to the final.

We are, indeed, into the business end of the tournament. There will be plenty of local and international talent on display in this match. Let's see what the betting markets and cricket odds have in store for Guyana v Trinbago this time.

Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders head-to-head record

The Amazon Warriors have a dominant record over the Knight Riders in their last five meetings. Guyana have won four and lost one. The Warriors won both their meetings earlier in the 2023 CPL.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Guyana have reached five CPL finals, but never won a title. They have also ended in third position four times and fourth once. They reach the play-offs regularly, but have lacked the ability to go all the way. This could be their opportunity to finally do so.

They lost just one match during the group stage this season - and confidently won their last two to go into this play-off with plenty of momentum and confidence. They will know, too, that Trinbago lost their final group match - and there is the chance to capitalise against opposition lacking momentum.

The Amazon Warriors have the two leading run-scorers in the 2023 CPL overall. Opener Saim Ayub and wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope have been in tremendous form. Hope struck a century against Barbados Royals recently, while Ayub collected three consecutive half-tons.

It's well noting that Guyana have three of the top 10 wicket-takers this CPL season - and another in joint 11th position. Seamers Dwaine Pretorius and Romario Shepherd, alongside spinners Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie, have been superb individually and collectively. Tahir's captaincy, too, has been impressive - and has not detracted from his primary role with the ball.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago remain in pursuit of a record fifth CPL title. They won their first in 2015 and fourth in 2020 during a prolific period for the Knight Riders franchise. Last year, Trinbago collected a disappointing sixth position - and are eager to right 2022's wrongs with more success in 2023.

The return of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo after a stint with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots was a major boost for the Knight Riders, but he hasn't played since late August and the bowling attack in particular have had to forge ahead without him.

Seamer Andre Russell and spinner Sunil Narine have been reasonably solid in the absence of the highest wicket-taker in the history of professional T20 cricket. Narine has formed a formidable spin partnership with Afghanistan recruit Waqar Salamkheil. They have shared 19 wickets and, importantly, a collective economy rate of under seven.

Batting-wise, West Indies talent Nicholas Pooran and New Zealand recruit Martin Guptill have spearheaded Trinbago's pursuits of big totals and targets. Pooran and Guptill, like Hope, have each struck a century this CPL season. The Qualifier 1 is nothing short of the ideal opportunity for at least one of them to add a second ton.

GAW vs TKR Toss Prediction

The first six matches of the Providence leg of the 2023 CPL brought any even split of three wins for the team batting first and as many for the team batting second. The last two have been won by the team batting first, which has bucked the general trend at this venue and others this season.

It'll be interesting to see what the toss-winning captain chooses to do this time. T20 cricket generally lends itself toward knowing the target and setting the pace of the chase accordingly. That said, based on recent results and the added significance of a play-off over a regular group match, the team to win the toss might opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The last two CPL matches at the Providence Stadium have yielded first-innings totals of 200-plus. These were preceded by a string of first-innings totals in the range of 160 to 170. It's likely a fresh strip will be used for this play-off, rather than the one deployed for the previous two fixtures.

It remains worthwhile playing two specialist spinners in these conditions - and perhaps opening the bowling with one. When the opening powerplay is underway, slow bowlers can succeed against hard-hitting openers anticipating pace on the ball.

The weather forecast for Providence on matchday suggests clear skies, high humidity and temperatures in the mid-20 degrees Celsius. The marginal threat of rain shouldn't be enough to shorten the match, if it arrives at all.

GAW vs TKR Betting Tips

The Amazon Warriors are looking in the best position to win this match. They have won their last two, while Trinbago go into this play-off in the wake of defeat to Guyana. They last met fewer than five days ago, when the Warriors were comfortable victors.

Guyana are still priced as 2.05 underdogs to win this match despite their excellent historic and recent record against Trinbago. The Knight Riders are offered as 1.84 favourites.

Imran Tahir to be top Guyana Amazon Warriors bowler

    3.20

Tahir is possibly the best leg-spinner in this year's CPL. He has taken six wickets in his last two matches. Tahir was Guyana's top bowler against Trinbago last time - and is a promising pick to be the same again.

Nicholas Pooran to be top Trinbago Knight Riders batter

    3.25

Pooran is one of five centurions in the 2023 CPL. He is the man for the big occasion and such occasions don't come much bigger than this at domestic level. Pooran doesn't necessarily need a century to be Trinbago's top batter in this match - 70 to 80 could do it.

Hope's last six scores have been 106, 54 not out, 38, 16 not out, 50 and 51. He has five 50-plus scores in nine innings this season - and is well placed to welcome a sixth here.
