ESS vs KENT Team Previews

Essex

Essex's 5-match winning run was broken by Somerset in their latest outing. Nevertheless, the team has won 7 of the 10 matches it has played so far and sits at the 3rd spot on the points table, and a win here will go a long way in helping it make it to the quarterfinals.

Feroze Khushi and Daniel Lawrence haven’t been the best as an opening pair and have often failed to give the team a solid start. However, they will try and put their best foot forward here. Michael Pepper, Robin Das, and Paul Walter will come down in the middle order.

Each of them has played some good innings so far but the team will need them to play more consistently. Daniel Sams has been excellent as an all-rounder, scoring 232 runs and also picking up 18 wickets. He is the leading wicket-taker for Essex this season and will once again lead the pace attack for them along with Sam Cook and Shane Snater.

Simon Harmer and Michael Critchley have done a good job with the spin, picking up 28 wickets between them. Much of Essex’s success so far can be attributed to the bowlers.

Kent

Kent had a terrible start to its campaign, losing 5 of its first 6 matches. However, it has managed to turn things around and is now on a 4-match winning spree. With 4 more matches to go, the team will need to continue with this winning momentum if they want to move into the quarterfinals.

Opener Daniel Bell-Drummond has been a fantastic performer for Kent this season and is also their top-scorer with 407 runs. His partner, Tawanda Muyeye hasn’t been that free-flowing and will be hoping to get a big inning here. Similarly, middle-order batsmen Sam Billings and Jack Leaning haven’t been able to score big runs and that has cost a few matches to the team.

On the other hand, Joe Denly and Jordan Cox have done decently well. In the bowling department, Michael Hogan and Grant Stewart have done an excellent job as far as picking up wickets is considered, but they have been a bit expensive. Wes Agar and Fred Klaassen haven’t played too many matches this season but are likely to play an important role going forward.

The spin department is a bit lacking though and George Linde is the only specialist spinner on the team.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the County Ground in Chelmsford is good to bat on and has seen an average first-inning score of around 180. However, the quicker bowlers will be able to get some movement early on in the game and the batsmen will need to settle down before playing the big shots. The weather is expected to remain clear with temperatures of between 18-23 degrees Celsius.

ESS vs KENT Betting Tips

While Kent has shown some good form of late, we think they will find it difficult to overcome a stiff opponent like Essex. The latter have some in-form batsmen in the middle order and also a well-balanced bowling attack.
