WRW vs WOR Match Prediction - Jun 23, 2023

Birmingham will have a tough game against Yorkshire, but things won’t get any easier when they next face Worcestershire.

Despite being on a four-game winning streak, Birmingham has two big injuries to major players Hain and Mills, which will definitely hurt their title chances. Worcestershire has looked fantastic with three wins in a row and is only two points behind Birmingham in the North Group.

Birmingham Bears vs. Worcestershire will take place at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on June 23rd.

WRW vs WOR Team Previews

Birmingham Bears

It is devastating for the Bears to lose Sam Hain to a hamstring injury, especially because he is the team's highest scorer with 417 runs. If Birmingham advances to the championship game, then there is a potential he may play again if healed, but there are many unknowns.

The batsmen who will have to take their game to a new level will be Davies (286) and Yates (270). They've occasionally performed well, but now is their chance to truly prove themselves. Maxwell has been a shell of himself, only scoring only 143 runs, for the season, but it seems he's not as effective after his injury.

Birmingham's bowling is now going to get worse with pacer Craig Miles missing the T20 Blast's remaining dates due to a hamstring injury. He had a fantastic season with 10/210, but the team has lost Moeen because of the Ashes call-up and will soon lose Hasan Ali when he plays for Pakistan.

While there are certain bowlers who can step in, such as Briggs (12/233) and Mousley (13/253), we'd want to see more from Brookes, who is currently on 8/289.

Birmingham Bears Playing 11

Alex Davies, Robert Yates, Glenn Maxwell, Dan Mousley, Chris Benjamin, Jacob Bethell, Chris Woakes, Ed Barnard, Danny Briggs, Hasan Ali, Jake Lintott.

Worcestershire

Worcestershire must exert every effort if they hope to get to the knockout round. Four straight losses severely dented their aspirations, but two recent wins are a positive shift of fortune and pushed them to third on the table.

While his recent efforts have been a touch questionable, Adam Hose (326) has been the team's highest scorer. He’s certainly looked better lately, with scores of 33, 27, and 5. He should still be aiming for more, as his highest is only 61.

Worcestershire is still highly dependent on D'Oliveira (310), who has scored 147 runs in his past four games and must bat more effectively than ever before to help his team's chances. Haynes has emerged recently to become a great third option for the batting, as his 63 runs against Lancashire was a surprise. He’s picked up 251 in total, and this is exactly what Worcestershire need right now.

One of the squad's top bowlers lately has been Usama Mir, who has two consecutive fantastic games with figures of 3/22 and 4/22. Mir is developing into an exceptionally valuable spinner. Even though he has only played in seven games, his results of 13/172 indicate that he clearly has potential to affect a match on his own. He can’t go 0/31 like he did against Lancashire, however.

D'Oliveira is excelling not just with the bat but also with the ball (15/230). The 21 wickets Brown picked up have been expensive for 390 runs, but 3/32 is the type of game we’d like to see more of.

Worcestershire Playing 11

Brett D Oliveira, Jack Haynes, Mitchell Santner, Adam Hose, Kashif Ali, Ben Cox, Ed Pollock, Usama Mir, Josh Tongue, Pat Brown, Dillon Pennington.

WRW vs WOR Toss Prediction

Batting first is usually the better option based on history, as 48 teams have won out of 88 games when this happens. Bowling first is not a bad option, as the pitch is very even.

Pitch and Conditions

Edgbaston is regarded as one of the most balanced surfaces in the UK. Bowlers can get some movement early on and can remove inexperienced or nervous batters, however. Scores of around 160 are likely, but it's not unheard of to score as much as 240 in a T20 game.

WRW vs WOR Betting Tips

Birmingham has won the last two matches against Worcestershire, but the two teams have been fairly even in the past. With the two big injuries to Birmingham, there’s no reason to think that they’ll be stronger. We think that Worcestershire has an overall better lineup that’s healthier, and they’ll pick up the win. Plus, the Betway odds are more enticing for Worcestershire in this match.

Bet on Worcestershire to win.

D'Oliveira or Hose are fine choices, but for something different and to get a better money return, choose Haynes. He's been a bit quiet in the league so far, but still managed to total 251 runs. He made a huge 63 runs against Lancashire, and it's certainly possible he can do better than this. Worth a try.

D'Oliveira is a quality bowler right now, and we like his odds far more than Brown or Mir. D'Oliveira has had fantastic games this season, including 4/11, but his overall total of 15/230 is fantastic. Brown or Mir are great bowlers, but D'Oliveira can deliver four epic overs.

    Birmingham Top Batter: Robert Yates

Yates is the perfect batter to pick up the slack while Hain is injured. He's made 66, 40, and 27 in his last three games, and made a total of 270 for the season (average of 33.75). Yates' odds are really good right now, so it's a good opportunity in this match.
