ENG vs NZ Team Previews

England

England put up a good batting performance in the 1st ODI and scored 291 runs in their quota of 50 overs. However, that wasn’t enough in the end as the visitors cruised to victory.

As many as 4 of the top 6 batsmen scored a half-century for England. These included Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone. There wouldn’t be much that Buttler would like to tweak going into the second ODI. The English batsmen have continued with their aggressive brand of batting and have achieved favorable results in the past.

The bowling was a bit of a dampener as except for Adil Rashid and David Willey, none of the bowlers were able to take a wicket. Reece Topley and Gus Atkinson, who were excellent in the T20 format, seemed to be struggling here as they were taken for plenty of runs.

However, the home team will take this loss in its stride and look to bounce back on Sunday.

England Playing 11

Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Gus Atkinson, Reece Topley.

New Zealand

After losing the first two T20s, the visiting team has made a strong comeback and has now won 3 consecutive matches across two formats.

Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell were in brilliant form with the bat and scored individual centuries and put up an unbeaten 180-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to lead their team to a relatively easy win. In addition to Conway and Daryl Mitchell, the New Zealanders have quite a few talented batsmen at their disposal, including Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, and Glenn Phillips.

The pace attack is in good shape too as Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson were among the wickets. They will be joined by Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry. We are also likely to see Trent Boult in action somewhere in this series. Rachin Ravindra bowled a brilliant spell of 3 wickets for 48 runs and we expect him to retain his spot in the playing XI.

Pitch and Conditions

The Rose Bowl offers a flat deck and is known to produce high-scoring encounters. The bowlers will need to bowl a good line and length to keep the batsmen under the lid. The team batting first will look to cross the 300-run mark. The weather is expected to remain a bit overcast with pleasant temperatures.

ENG vs NZ Betting Tips

While England is undoubtedly one of the strongest teams around, looking at the way that the visitors have performed over the past week, we feel that the latter have a good chance of winning this match. New Zealand has found a better balance of attack and restraint which is reaping its rewards. Also, the odds on New Zealand are a lot more attractive and in current form, hard to pass up.
