Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings will be elated with their win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. The emphatic win not only got them two points but had a positive impact on the NRR.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is in red-hot form with the bat. He has scored 3 half-centuries and a century in his last 5 outings and is second in the list for the Orange Cap. His knock of 98 runs was crucial in helping CSK set a match-winning target of 213 runs.

While Shivam Dube continues to play well and is quickly proving himself to be the best six-hitter in India, the team will be happy to see Daryl Mitchell get some runs under his belt, easing the middle-order woes. With the likes of Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni coming in to bat lower down the order, CSK boasts impressive batting depth.

The seamers are in good form. Mustafizur is among the top wicket-takers of the season with 14 wickets, while Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande have picked up 23 wickets between them. Jadeja has been pretty miserly during the middle overs. 

CSK, especially at home, is very tough to stop and will be a real handful for PBKS.

Punjab Kings

After facing 4 consecutive losses, the Punjab Kings finally managed to bounce back on Friday by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders in a record chase. The team has moved up to the 8th place on the points table.

Johnny Bairstow produced a master class, scoring 108 runs in just 48 deliveries. He was ably supported by Prabhsimran Singh as the duo put up an opening stand of 93 runs in the Powerplay. However, the form of middle-order batsmen like Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran, and Rilee Rossouw hasn’t been the best.

Shashank Singh is turning out to be a sensational find for PBKS. He scored his second half-century of the season and is now the top run-getter for the team. They also have Ashutosh Sharma down the order, a genuine six-hitter that can provide a run-rate boost whenever needed.

The pace department has done an excellent job in terms of picking up wickets. Harshal Patel is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the season with 14 wickets, while Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh have 12 wickets each. However, they have often been wayward with their line and length, allowing the batsmen to score boundaries.

The spinners have struggled to make much of an impact. 

The problem for PBKS has been consistency from its top batters. We have seen a couple of good performances but nothing that suggests we can expect consistency from this unit just yet.
