A History of Aggression

In the past, India vs Pakistan matches have been famous for duels, be it Sachin Tendulkar vs Shoaib Akhtar or Venkatesh Prasad vs Aamir Sohail. More recently, Babar Azam vs Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli vs Shaheen Shah Afridi have caught the eyes of the fans. However, a new rivalry is taking shape ahead of Saturday’s clash and we can’t wait to see how things pan out.

It all started during the Asia Cup group-stage fixture between India and Pakistan. Batting first, India had lost 4 of its top-order batsmen inside the first fifteen overs with just 66 runs on the board. However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya put up a 166-run partnership for the 5th wicket to steer India towards a respectable total. Kishan was in particularly sublime form and took the attack to the opposition bowling. He smashed 9 boundaries and 2 6s to score 82 of just 81 deliveries. It was Kishan’s 4th consecutive ODI half-century as he equaled MS Dhoni’s rare feat. In a bid to accelerate further, Kishan skewed up a Haris Rauf delivery in the 38th over and was caught by Babar Azam at mid-on. While it was the end of a good inning, it was Haris Rauf’s reaction that caught the eye of the cricket fraternity. Rauf was pretty animated in his sendoff and was seen gesturing quite aggressively towards Kishan as he walked back.

With India’s first-choice opener Shubman Gill down with a bout of dengue, Kishan has replaced him in the opening slot and will in all probability play the match on Saturday. He is not one to be mellowed down by Rauf’s antics and the fans are eagerly awaiting how his bat responds to the seamer’s new-ball attack.

No Quarter Given

The match is going to be played in front of what could possibly be the biggest crowd to attend a cricket match. Both teams are among the best in the world right now and will come at each other hard. A part of the contest is handling the pressure and not becoming overawed by the situation. Also, since the eyes of both nations are going to be on this contest, players will be aware of their actions having massive effects outside the field also.

Players will be aggressive and not take a single step back but they would want to play in the right spirit as well.
