The pitch at the Chepauk Stadium is expected to be good to bat on against the new ball. As both teams have some clean strikers, we can expect a couple of big overs in the powerplay. Even down the order, one big over is always around the corner and we think this is worth the risk.
Natarajan has bowled exceedingly well this season. He is the leading wicket-taker for the team and has been the top bowler twice in his last 3 outings.
Tripathi has been in good form of late. He has scored at least 22 runs in each of his last 3 innings and we are backing him to do so again.
After a long and arduous journey of over 2 months, we have now reached the climax of the 17th edition of the IPL. The Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the summit clash on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The records are heavily skewed in favor of KKR. Out of the 26 matches played between the two teams, KKR has won 17, while SRH has managed to win only 9.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
KKR has been on a roll this season. After finishing at the top of the points table, the team bulldozed through SRH to earn an easy entry to the finals. They have enjoyed enough rest in the past week and will be raring to go after their 3rd IPL title.
Much of KKR’s success can be attributed to the remarkable all-round performances of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Narine has been particularly impressive at the top of the order and is the leading run-getter for the team this season.
His opening partnership with Rahmanullah Gurbaz will play an important role if the team wants to post a big total. Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer had been a bit inconsistent in the group stages but the individual half-centuries that they scored in Qualifier 1 would have provided a big boost to their confidence.
KKR also boasts of a solid bowling attack. Varun Chakaravarthy has been pretty impressive and has picked up 20 wickets. Harshit Rana has bowled brilliantly and will join Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora in the pace department.
There are no real weaknesses in the KKR lineup right now. The only thing that they would want to guard against is complacency. We can see the KKR team continue to attack SRH with a lot of spin in this match and try to choke their high-flying batters.
Under the able leadership of Pat Cummins, SRH has scripted a remarkable turnaround compared to its last few seasons and has made its way to the finals for the third time ever.
While much of the team’s success in the group stages was powered by the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s incredible batting, the team will be delighted by the way Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen batted in the last match.
However, the batting form of the likes of Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad remains a cause for concern.
Part-time spinners Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed were the unexpected heroes of Qualifier 2 as they spun a web around RR's batting. As we are looking towards another flat and dry pitch, their performance will yet again be looked forward to.
Coming to pace, T Natarajan has been consistent throughout the season and picked up 19 wickets. He will be joined by Pat Cummins, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and Jaydev Unadkat. SRH has played a match in Chennai and will be better prepared for the conditions.
These conditions do not suit their style of play but if there is a captain that can adjust to the demans of the situation, that is Pat Cummins. Expect him to use a lot of slower ball bouncers, spinners at all stages, and come at KKR with everything that he has got.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
We are likely to have a red soil pitch for the finals which will offer plenty of pace and bounce to the quicker bowlers. That said, batting here will be a delight and we can expect plenty of runs. The team batting first will aim for over 190 runs to put the opposition under pressure.
The weather is likely to remain warm at over 32 degrees with less chance of dew.
While the previous encounter between these two teams was pretty lopsided towards KKR, we expect a much closer fight this time around. Nevertheless, we feel that KKR has a good chance of repeating the result they got, thanks to a team that has performed well on all fronts.
Bet on KKR to win.
