PER vs MLS Match Preview

The Scorchers looked a bit wobbly at the start of the season but finally seem to have settled down.

The inclusion of Faf du Plessis at the top of the order is already showing its benefits as du Plessis has given them a couple of great starts. Adam Lyth and Nick Hobson however continue to struggle as none of them have been able to play a big inning this season.

Josh Inglis has been in incredible form as he has scored 2 half-centuries in 4 innings and has scored an aggregate of 168 runs. Aaron Hardie too has been quite handy, scoring 119 runs and also picking up 2 wickets.

Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye have picked up 8 wickets each, while Jason Behrendorff has 7.

Joe Clarke and Beau Webster have been the best players with the bat for the Stars. Clarke has scored 157 runs so far and is third on the list of top scorers for this series. He is also the only batsman who has scored a century this season. Webster is close behind with 149 runs. The other batsmen however have failed to score consistently and that has been one of the main reasons for the poor performance of Stars.

The bowling has been much better in comparison. Luke Wood has bowled superbly and picked up 9 wickets, and Adam Zampa to has troubled quite a few batsmen. Trent Boult hasn’t been at his lethal best but it is just a matter of time before he gets going.

Weather Report

The conditions are likely to remain overcast but there is hardly any chance of rain. The temperature will remain below 22 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The Optus Stadium in Perth offers plenty of bounce. This will make it easy for the batsmen to score runs as the pitch offers a lot of pace to work with. That said, the quicker bowlers will be able to get some movement of the pitch and can be quite effective.

The spinners however are likely to struggle. The average first innings score here is around 150.

Notable stats

Adam Zampa’s Economical Bowling

Given the fast-paced nature of the T20 format, Zampa is remarkably economical with his bowling. In the last 9 matches, he has picked up 13 wickets while giving away runs at just 6.78 runs per over.

Team News

Both teams are unlikely to make any changes to their playing eleven for this match.
