LQ vs QG Match Preview

Shaheen Shah Afridi will captain Lahore Qalandars, with support from a talented squad that includes Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Rashid Khan. Lahore Qalandars have built on their on-paper strength brilliantly and are currently at the top of the table, tied with Multan Sultans on points and ahead on net run-rate.

Having played one extra game, Lahore Qalandars have an edge that could allow them to maintain their advantage if they secure a win in their upcoming match. Their strong position on the points table indicates that they are building momentum as they strive for success in the tournament. Given the side they have and the way they have played, keeping them quiet is going to be a difficult task.

Quetta Gladiators have only won one out of their five matches and are currently at the bottom of the points table. Their losses have been significant, resulting in a net run-rate of -1.977. Although they managed to sneak past Karachi Kings a couple of weeks ago, they have struggled to secure victories.

Despite having a side loaded with experienced players like Jason Roy and Martin Guptill, Quetta Gladiators appear to be playing with a dated approach. Their top-order performances have been disappointing, while their middle-order has shown some promise. However, their lower order has not provided enough reliability, causing Hafeez, Sarfaraz, and Iftikhar all to be tied down a bit. Going against the bowling anyway was never the stronger suite of those three and that's been hurting the Gladiators.

In addition, their bowling attack lacks sharpness and experience, as was evident in their game against Islamabad United. Quetta Gladiators will need to improve in several areas if they hope to turn their tournament around and climb up the points table. It's going to be a difficult job to bounce back from here but they certainly have the experience necessary to do so.

Weather Report

This is a venue where there's nothing in favor of the bowlers. The weather is nice and cold during this part of the year and that's perhaps the only thing the fielding team would enjoy. Chasing here could be difficult owing to the scoreboard pressure but the presence of dew would make things interesting. Keeping that in mind and the other factors, we expect the captain winning the toss to field first.

Pitch Report

We have seen only a couple of matches played here at this venue in the tournament so far and unsurprisingly both were pretty high-scoring as far as the first innings is concerned. In three of the four innings, we saw scores of over 200 runs being scored. The weather has been perfect for Cricket so far and we expect nothing different for this game too. The surface is true with the white ball doing something only for the first couple of overs. Considering all that and the size of the boundaries here, a first innings total of around 200 would be just about par.
