WI vs ENG Team Previews

West Indies

The West Indies has had a long break as it failed to qualify for the World Cup. The team played its last international fixture back in August when India was touring the country. The team has endured a difficult year and will look to end it on a high.

The team will be led by Shai Hope, while Alzarri Joseph has been named as his deputy. Hope is the leading run-scorer for the West Indies and will once again be a vital cog in the batting line-up. With Shane Dowrich announcing his retirement, he remains the only wicket-keeper on the squad.

Kjorn Ottley, who was brilliant with the bat in the recent Super50, has received an ODI call-up after almost 2 years. He will play an important role in the middle order along with Shimron Hetmeyer. Brandon King and Alick Athanaze bring up the rest of the batting lineup.

All-rounder Sherfane Rutherford is likely to make his ODI debut and score some important runs towards the end. Matthew Forde has done well in his recent domestic and will join Alzarri Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Oshane Thomas in the seam department, while Yannic Cariah and Gudakesh Motie are the two spinners on the squad.

50 Over cricket has long been forgotten by West Indies cricket and we are not too sure if cosmetic changes to the squad are going to achieve anything.

England

The defending champions, England, entered the 2023 ODI World Cup as one of the favorites to win the title. Instead, it turned out to be one of their worst World Cup campaigns as the team managed to win just 3 of the 9 matches played and finished 7th on the points table.

Nevertheless, England will look to shake off the disappointment and make a fresh beginning here.

While Jos Buttler has been retained as the captain for the entire tour, England has made some changes to the squad to inject some fresh energy into the squad. Ollie Pope is likely to make his ODI debut in this match and will join Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley at the top of the order.

Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root, who were the top 3 run-getters for England in the World Cup, have been dropped, and so are Adil Rashid, Moeen Alo, and Bairstow. This makes Harry Brook a vital cog in the middle order, while Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone retain their place as all-rounders.

England has also gone in for a new-look seam attack, consisting of Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, and Josh Turner, while Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley will feature in the spin department.

The depth of the English white-ball talent will be tested in this series for sure.

WI vs ENG Toss Prediction

While the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium has not hosted an ODI for more than 2 years, each of the last 3 matches played here was won while chasing. Therefore, bowling first might be a good option on this ground.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Antigua is well-balanced and we can expect an even contest between the bat and the ball. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 250. The surface is hard and offers a good amount of pace and bounce. The seamers will be able to get some movement with the new ball.

However, as the game progresses, the surface evens out and gets easier to bat on.

The weather is likely to be warm and humid with temperatures of between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.

WI vs ENG Betting Tips

While England hasn’t had the best of World Cup campaigns, they are still a quality side and the changes made to the squad are only going to give a better balance to the team. On the other hand, the West Indies have been through turmoil in recent times and are likely to struggle.
