SYTW vs HBHW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Nov 09, 2023

The Thunder have made a remarkable turnaround since last season, where they finished last on the table with a horrific 1-10 record. This season, however, is a new dawn and sees the Thunder winning like crazy with a 5-1 record. Strangely, the one loss came against the Hurricanes earlier in the season, so anything is possible.

Hobart has looked bad at times, but they’ve had enough victories for a respectable 3-3 record and 5th place on the WBBL table. The win over the Thunder may boost their confidence in this match.

Sydney Thunder Women vs. Hobart Hurricanes Women will take place at the Cricket Central, Sydney, on November 9th. For all the latest info and tips, check our betting odds page.

SYTW vs HBHW Team Previews

Sydney Thunder Women

Sydney is looking awesome right now, and it’s fair to say that the majority of the success is thanks to Chamari Athapaththu. The Sri Lankan all-rounder has already reached 304 runs this season, which is all the more impressive as she made just 133 runs for the entire last season with the Renegades. It’s not a surprise that Athapaththu has been named the best player of the WBBL right now.

Wilson has come alive at exactly the right time and has a total of 233 runs. Her 83* in the last game is a testament to how good her batting has become, and she and Athapaththu are arguably the best opening pair in the league. Litchfield (190 runs) and Knight (123 runs) are also adding valuable scores, but the middle order of Kapp (29) and Learoyd (48) could still be doing more to help the team.

Darlington is usually reliable for at least 2 wickets per match, and she’s done really well so far to reach 9/198 in total. She’s certainly the Thunder’s best bowler, and there’s a big gap to the next-best with Kapp (5/152). Johnson is coming along with 4/90, although we’re not sure why Bates has bowled 22 overs, as she’s been very poor with 1/170.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

The Hurricanes were looking very strong for a while with three straight victories over the Strikers, Thunder, and Stars. The loss to the Heat brought things back to earth, but the Hurricanes are not to be underestimated.

Villani is undoubtedly the reason that the Hurricanes are playing good cricket and won at least 3 games. She’s tallied 217 runs but done so in a very consistent manner, as her lowest score is 39 runs and highest is 58*. Lee has been decent with 135 runs, but her scores are all over the place, with her last three games ranging from 91 to 17 to 1. Hobart would be more fearsome if she could have reliability like Villani.

The likes of Bryony Smith (26), Graham (46), and Carey (42) haven’t helped much so far, but the team is getting great matches from Stalenberg with 100 runs.

The Hurricanes bowling still needs some work, but we’ve seen some nice performances from Strano (7/123) with a 6.83 ER. Still, when 7 wickets is the best effort, it’s clear that improvements need to be made. Ismail is doing well enough with 5/146, but Graham is certainly giving up too many runs with a total of 3/177.

SYTW vs HBHW Toss Prediction

Look for captains to bowl first after winning the toss, as the new ball on this pitch will be devastating in the first innings.

Pitch and Conditions

The Cricket Central pitch is quite new and hasn’t held so many T20 matches, but from the details we have, it’s going to be quite springy and fast, which is great for pace bowlers. The outfield is quick, however, so batters may be able to find the boundary with the ball’s speed. Still, pace bowlers will have a better time.

SYTW vs HBHW Betting Tips

The Fun88 odds are incredible for the Hurricanes at the minute, but we still trust the Thunder to beat them. It might be worth placing a very small bet on the Hurricanes just in case, but the Thunder are playing too well to be defeated by Hobart. Although the Hurricanes have won the last 4 games against Sydney, most of those were from previous seasons and much has changed.

Athapaththu and Wilson are batting fantastically well and they should tear up the Hobart bowlers, who aren’t providing such a threat. The Thunder will need to be careful about Villani, but if she and Lee have below-average games, then there’s not really anyone else for Hobart to hit major runs.

Bet on the Sydney Thunder to win.

The odds aren't quite as good as the start of the season, but Athapaththu is still one of the most trustworthy bets in the WBBL. She should be able to destroy a weaker Hobart bowling attack and continue her great run-scoring. She's already made over 300 runs and will continue to dominate in this match.

The odds for Kapp and Darlington are a bit too low in this match, but Johnson has a lot of potential and there's a good chance of a reward here. She only has 4 wickets so far, but she's getting better in every match and just needs to pick up the effort.

Villani is one of the safest bets in the WBBL. She's a steady run-scorer and is yet to make below 39 runs this season for a total of 217. She might not have the best teammates, but Villani alone is dangerous.
