SLW vs NZW Team Previews

Sri Lanka Women

Sri Lanka Women hasn’t had the best of times recently as it has won just 1 of its last 8 completed ODIs. However, the team will be looking to put the past losses behind and look, to begin with, a fresh mind here.

The team will be led by Chamari Athapaththu, who has been one of the most consistent performers for Sri Lanka in recent times. The Sri Lankan selectors have opted to go for a mix of young and experienced players for this tour and will hope to reap the benefits of that.

Athapaththu is likely to open the batting with Vishmi Gunaratne. The team has plenty of options when it comes to the middle order as Nilakshi De Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, and Hasini Perera are all available for selection. Oshadi Ranasinghe is an excellent all-rounder who is capable of making match-winning contributions with the bat as well as the ball.

Sugandika Kumari, and Inoka Ranaweera will be seen leading the spin attack in this series, along with Inoshi Feranado. Sugandika and Inoka are two of the most experienced spinners on the team and can exploit the turning wickets of Sri Lanka well.

The youngsters on the squad include Kawya Karvindi, Imesha Dulani, and Hansima Karunaratne. The team is a bit lacking though in the pace department as Udeshika Prabodhani is the only quality seamer on the team.

Sri Lanka Women Playing 11

Chamari Atapattu, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Sugandika Kumari, Inoka Ranaweera, Udeshika Prabodhani, Hansima Karunaratne.

New Zealand Women

The New Zealand Women’s team has won each of its last two bilateral ODI series. The first of those came when the team toured West Indies last year, and the latest one came on home turf against Bangladesh Women. New Zealand, which is traveling to Sri Lanka for its first-ever bilateral series there, will be eager to replicate the success.

There are plenty of familiar faces on the squad. The team will be led by Sophie Devine, who is likely to be seen at the top of the batting order along with veteran Suzie Bates. There are plenty of experienced players on the team, inclined Amelia Kerr, Maddy Green, and Lea Tahuhu.

The latter has been one of the key performers for the team recently, especially in the T20 format. However, except for the opening pair, none of the players have prior experience of playing in Sri Lanka and it will be interesting to see how they adapt to the conditions here, which are vastly different than the ones at home.

Seamer Jess Kerr, who was included in the squad, has suffered an injury and has been replaced by off-spinner Leigh Kasperek, who will join the likes of Kerr, Fran Jonas, and Eden Carson. Rosemary Mair makes a return to the team after a gap of almost 10 months and will feature in the seam department along with Molly Penfold and Hannah Rowe.

SLW vs NZW Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Galle International Stadium is well-balanced, providing equal opportunities to the batters as well as the bowlers. The quicker bowlers will get some swing early on but once the game progresses, the surface should get easier to bat on. The pitch is on the drier side and the spinners can expect some grip and turn. A score of around 240 is a par score here.

There is a forecast for rain which can lead to delays and interruptions.

SLW vs NZW Betting Tips

Looking at the record of both teams, it is clear that the visitors hold the trumps here. However, we do expect Sri Lanka to give a good fightback here.
