RSAW vs WIW Team Previews

South Africa Women

South Africa played brilliantly in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, which they had hosted, to make it to the Finals. However, they were defeated by Australia and the ICC trophy continues to elude them.

The Proteas have retained most of the players that took them to the finals in 2023. However, their performance since the tournament, especially in T20s, hasn’t been the best. They have lost 10 of the 15 T20Is played since then, and are coming into this contest on the back of consecutive losses against New Zealand and India in warm-up games.

Shabmim Ismail has announced her retirement and isn’t a part of the squad, leaving a big void in the pace attack which the selectors have tried to bridge by bringing in Ayanda Hlubi. Hlubi will join Ayabonga Khaka as a full-time seamer.

However, South Africa’s biggest asset will be its experienced trio of Sune Luus, Marizanne Kapp, and Laura Woolvardt, all of whom are capable of turning the game around single-handedly. Seshnei Naidu is another uncapped player in the squad who will bolster the spin attack.

South Africa Women Playing 11

West Indies Women

The West Indies has put up some excellent performances in the run-up to this World Cup as they defeated teams like Ireland, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They also scored their first-ever win Down Under, which is no mean feat.

West Indies has gone for a mix of youth and experience for this particular edition and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The biggest news remains the comeback of Deandra Dottin, who announced her retirement from international cricket in 2022.

She will strengthen the batting alongside Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, Chedean Nation, and Shemaine Campbell. Uncapped player Nerissa Crafton has been included in the squad as an all-rounder. Ashmini Munisar and Mandy Mangru have also just recently made their international debuts and could feature in the playing eleven down the line.

The spinners, Karishma Ramharack and Afy Fletcher are likely to play an important role on the pitch in Dubai, while Shamilia Connell is likely to lead the pace attack.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Dubai is usually dry and flat with very little grass. The new ball does move around a bit but there are no sharp movements and the batters can play their shots once they settle down.

While the spinners will get some help as well, they will need to be spot-on with their line and length as playing across the line is easy. The team batting first will look to score around 170 runs.

Since this match will be played in the afternoon, there will be no dew, and the temperatures will remain above 35 degrees.
