RSAW vs BANW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 16, 2023

South Africa Women and Bangladesh Women will contest the first ODI of their three-match series on Saturday. South Africa and Bangladesh currently occupy third and eigth position, respectively, in the International Cricket Council's women's team rankings.

The Proteas Women and visiting Bangladesh team claimed a victory each and shared a washout in their T20I series earlier this month. Let's see what the betting markets and cricket odds have in store for this key ODI series opener at Buffalo Park in East London.

South Africa Women vs Bangladesh Women head-to-head record

The Proteas Women have a dominant record against Bangladesh in their last five ODI meetings. South Africa won on all five occasions. That's a difficult losing streak for the Tigers to end. In total, South Africa Women have won 16 of their 18 ODIs against Bangladesh Women.

RSAW vs BANW Team Previews

South Africa Women

The preceding T20I series between these two teams offered some interesting insight into the competitive cricket we can anticipate for this ODI series. These are a couple of highly entertaining limited-overs units - and you can expect some intriguing battles with bat and ball.

Fast bowler Ayabonga Khaka and all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk are back for the home side. They missed the T20I series. Their collective return is a big boost for the Proteas, who won't have the injured Chloe Tryon available this time.

Plenty of eyes will be on Laura Wolvaardt again. She was elevated to the captaincy relatively recently and it remains to be seen whether the additional responsibility will limit or empower her prmiary role with the bat in the long term. Here's another opportunity for her to show she really wants to do the job.

The addition of the versatile Eliz-Mari Marx to the South African squad is a promising move. At just 20 years old, Marx is a massive talent and could have a long future with the national team at T20I, ODI and Test level. She could make her debut in ODI cricket in this series opener.

South Africa Women Playing 11

Sinalo Jafta, Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus, Tazmin Brits, Anneke Bosch, Nadine de Klerk, Delmi Tucker, Eliz Mari Marx, Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Masabata Klaas.

Bangladesh Women

Bangladesh Women would have fancied a rare T20I series win over their South African opposition recently. It's a pity one of their T20Is was washed out. Now, with three ODIs ahead, the visitors can reset their focus to the longer format to again challenge the series favourites.

Spinner Nahida Akter is an impressive prospect. She is closing in on 50 wickets in ODI cricket and, as a left-armer, should enjoy conducive conditions in East London. The ball turning away from the right-handers is often a genuine threat in ODI competition.

Batter Fargana Hogue is in superb form and could pose a hefty challenge against the South African bowlers. Hogue hit 58 in a recent warm-up match and, earlier this year, struck 62 against Pakistan Women and 107 versus India Women. Those are some outstanding numbers.

There is also wicketkeeper-batter Nigar Sultana. She has played international cricket for eight years and is quickly understanding South African conditions after featuring in the full T20I series and recent warm-up match. Conditions in East London won't be too dissimilar to what she experienced in Bloemfontein, Benoni and Kimberley.

RSAW vs BANW Toss Prediction

Buffalo Park has hosted four WODIs since its first in 2004. All four were won by the team batting first.

It's highly likely the team to win the toss here will opt to bat first.

This will be Bangladesh Women's first ever ODI in East London.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The last three WODI first-innings totals at this ground have been 235, 232 and 214. A first-innings total of 220-plus, this time, should be considered competitive.

Teams have been bowled out three times in the last six innings in WODI cricket here. It's well worth playing two specialist spinners at this venue.

Some rain is forecast in the area a day prior to the match. That could affect preparation of the pitch. On matchday, no wet weather is forecast.

RSAW vs BANW Betting Tips

South Africa Women should win this match. They have homeground advantage and a dominant WODI history against Bangladesh Women.

Bet on the hosts to win as 1.13 favourites. Bangladesh are priced as 6.00 underdogs.
