The preceding T20I series between these two teams offered some interesting insight into the competitive cricket we can anticipate for this ODI series. These are a couple of highly entertaining limited-overs units - and you can expect some intriguing battles with bat and ball.
Fast bowler Ayabonga Khaka and all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk are back for the home side. They missed the T20I series. Their collective return is a big boost for the Proteas, who won't have the injured Chloe Tryon available this time.
Plenty of eyes will be on Laura Wolvaardt again. She was elevated to the captaincy relatively recently and it remains to be seen whether the additional responsibility will limit or empower her prmiary role with the bat in the long term. The addition of the versatile Eliz-Mari Marx to the South African squad is a promising move. At just 20 years old, Marx is a massive talent and could have a long future with the national team at T20I, ODI and Test level. She could make her debut in ODI cricket in this series opener.

Spinner Nahida Akter is an impressive prospect. She is closing in on 50 wickets in ODI cricket and, as a left-armer, should enjoy conducive conditions in East London. The ball turning away from the right-handers is often a genuine threat in ODI competition.
Batter Fargana Hogue is in superb form and could pose a hefty challenge against the South African bowlers. Hogue hit 58 in a recent warm-up match and, earlier this year, struck 62 against Pakistan Women and 107 versus India Women. Those are some outstanding numbers.
There is also wicketkeeper-batter Nigar Sultana. She has played international cricket for eight years and is quickly understanding South African conditions after featuring in the full T20I series and recent warm-up match. Conditions in East London won't be too dissimilar to what she experienced in Bloemfontein, Benoni and Kimberley.
