PER vs HBH Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 18, 2023
The Perth Scorchers may have recently lost to the Heat (now 8-3 for the season), but that doesn’t mean the squad isn’t still as strong as ever. The Hurricanes are looking solid but will need a few more wins to get into the post-season, as the team is in fifth place with a 5-5 record.
PER vs HBH Team Previews
Perth Scorchers
Perth could have certainly won against the Sixers, but ended up losing by six runs via a combination of poor batting and terrible bowling. Newly acquired Stephen Eskinazi from England has been a great find, as he picked up 66 runs in the loss and 40 runs in the game before.
It was strange to see three top batters – Bancroft, Inglis, and Hardie – all dismissed for a total of 13 runs, but bad games happen and it’s rare to see it twice in a row. The usually reliable bowlers, Tye and Agar, had an equally forgettable match, as they combined for 0/47.
There’s little reason to worry, as Inglis and Hardie remain in the top 10 for top run-scorers in the BBL, while Tye is the leader in wickets taken with 20.
Perth Scorchers Playing 11
Cameron Bancroft, Stephen Eskinazi, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are getting better at just the right time, as two straight wins are just what they need to be competitive. If it wasn’t for Tim David’s huge 76 runs from 41 deliveries in the win over the Thunder, then things could have been very different.
There’s a great batting trio of David, Caleb Jewell (239 runs) and Matthew Wade (236) starting to emerge, which is a great sign, because if someone is having a bad game then there’s someone else to pick up the slack.
It’s fantastic to see spinner Paddy Dooley back in action after his finger injury, and he didn’t waste time, as his 3/22 was a massive reason for the recent victory. Riley Meredith is also emerging as a bowling star with an impressive 2/14 performance. Both have 15 wickets each for the season.
Hobart Hurricanes Playing 11
Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Zak Crawley, Matthew Wade, Timothy David, D'Arcy Short, Faheem Ashraf, Tom Andrews, Nathan Ellis, Paddy Dooley, Riley Meredith.
PER vs HBH Toss Prediction
Hobart usually performs better when batting second against the Scorchers, so the Hurricanes may well choose to field first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions
Batters tend to love the Optus Stadium because of the extra bounce and the rapid outfield. It’s not unusual for pace bowlers to have great games, so Tye and Meredith will be important.
PER vs HBH Betting Tips
The obvious selection is Perth because of their record and fantastic squad, but Hobart certainly has a chance to pull off a stunning underdog win. The odds make it more appealing to choose the Hurricanes and this would be a statement win for a team on its way skyward.
Bet on Hobart to win.
