PAK vs BAN Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 30, 2024

How the odds have shifted in the span of just a few days! We hope loyal readers of OCB would have been able to grab on to the odds for the Draw before the first match and thence cashed out by the fifth day to ensure a profitable end result!

For the second test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the betting sites are now offering the Draw as the most likely result. Bangladesh is still the underdog but Pakistan is available at some pretty attractive rates as well. What should be your strategy and what is likely to happen?

Let us try and take a closer look.

PAK vs BAN Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan will be reeling under immense pressure after losing the first Test thanks to a spectacular second inning collapse. Pakistan had batted well, albeit a bit slowly, to set up a good first-inning total. Runs from the bats of Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan dominated that inning. Pakistan also bowled decently and had a chance to roll over Bangladesh for a healthy lead.

However, as we saw, a bowling attack that was simply not as effective as hoped and a batting lineup that crumbled under pressure in the second inning led Pakistan to its first ever Test match defeat against Bangladesh.

Pakistan has now gone 9 consecutive Tests at home without winning a match.

Looking ahead, Pakistan has two choices. It can either double down on what it believed to be the right strategy or change tack completely. With a new coaching staff, a new pitch curator, and a new PCB management committee, we think Pakistan is going to double down.

They may include Abrar Ahmed in this match in place of Mohammad Ali but the rest of the team will remain the same. A lot more grass on the wicket will keep Pakistan's pacers interested as well. We think Saud Shakeel has proven himself to be a brilliant Test match batter and with an average close to 90, he can be someone to rely on.

Look to bet on him to score some runs. Among the bowlers, Naseem Shah is our pick to be the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the first inning. Khurram Shahzad also bowled well and is someone you can consider for this role.

Pakistan is slipping fast in quality and is not the force it once was but we still think it should be able to bounce back and come at Bangladesh hard in this match.

Pakistan Playing 11

Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, Khurram Shehzad, Abrar Ahmad, Mohammad Ali, Mir Hamza.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh will remember its first victory against Pakistan for years to come. Not least for the turmoil and unrest going on in Bangladesh at the moment. A brilliant inning from Mushfiqur Rahim in the first inning, some excellent counter-attacking batting from Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and finally some brilliance from Shakib with the ball all ensured that Bangladesh outplayed Pakistan in all aspects of the game.

Bangladesh has not been a good Test playing side for quite a while now but it seems as if the emergence of some promising bowlers is going it the teeth to fight for victories. Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz all bowled with relentless pressure.

If the pitch at Pindi genuinely offers some help to the pacers in the second match, we think Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam could be the bowlers to benefit from that. The batting lineup for Bangladesh is not poor but it would be fair to say that they were in their comfort zone in the first match.

The pitch lacked pace, bounce, and took no turn. It was as flat as any a batter could hope for.

We believe that the Bangladeshi batters will struggle if the pitch provides even a little bit more assistance. Mushfiqur Rahman has an excellent record against Pakistan and might be the batter to back once more. Also, Mominul Haque looked in very good touch (after a long time) and can be someone to bet on to score some runs in this match also.

Bangladesh Playing 11

Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch will be under severe scrutiny for this match. One day out, the curator seems to have left a lot of grass on the surface. Whether this actually ends up being live grass that assists the bowlers or just ends up making the surface flatter remains to be seen. Close to 30% of all matches have been Draws at Rawalpindi.

We are hoping for a pitch that has a lot more for the bowlers this time around, though, and we think a result is likely.

The weather forecast for the match is pretty good with not many interruptions likely.

PAK vs BAN Betting Tips

We think the odds being offered on Pakistan to win this match are very attractive. Sure they lost their first match but keep the larger picture in mind. They are playing at home against Bangladesh on a pitch that is being tailor made to help the Pakistani pacers.

Bet on Pakistan to win.
