PAK vs BAN Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 21, 2024

Bangladesh, as a country, has been in some turmoil recently with a student-led revolution causing a political upheaval. That has caused the Bangladesh cricket team to leave earlier than planned and reach Pakistan with a lot of time to get used to the conditions. Pakistan has a jam-packed home Test calendar coming up and a rise up the WTC rankings will certainly be on their minds.

Pakistan has not been the most confident team playing at home and is still searching for its best combination in home conditions. Is this the season when they start feeling comfortable at home? Can Bangladesh pull off an upset and bring joy to their entire nation?

Match Prediction and Cricket Betting Tips for Pakistan vs Bangladesh, 1st Test 2024.

PAK vs BAN Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan has named its playing eleven ahead of the Test Match and is going in with an all-pace bowling attack. Traditionally, the wicket at Rawalpindi has helped the pacers but that zip seems to have reduced over the years. We believe Pakistan is taking a big risk in going with just four pace-bowlers with Salman Ali Agha as their lead spinner.

The bowling attack will feature Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Ali, and Khurram Shahzad. This is an obviously talented bowling attack, especially in home conditions but we believe they could struggle on a flat surface. Naseem Shah, with some reverse swing aiding him, seems set to be the biggest threat to Bangladesh in this match.

He is the one we would advise betting on to be the Top Bowler for Pakistan.

As far as the batting goes, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub will get another chance at the top of the order. This is a relatively new batting partnership and both players will be under pressure to perform as Muhammad Hurraira is waiting in the wings.

Sahn Masood, Babar Azam, and Saud Shakeel round out a strong top-6 but with Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha to follow, Pakistan also has a lot of depth. This should allow it to get enough runs to win or at the very least draw the match.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh will be coming into this match a bit tentative. It has a poor record against Pakistan, has lost its previous three Tests that it has played, and also struggles in Test Matches in general. Add to that some injury concerns and you have a recipe for a disaster.

Mahmmudul Hasan Joy has been ruled out of the first Test and is likely to be replaced by Shadman Islam. The other opening batter, Zakir Hasan, has also not been in great form. In fact, when it comes to the batting lineup, Bangladesh is always close to a collapse.

Shakib Al Hasan is not quite the batter he was in his prime and is more likely to play a quickfire cameo than a match-winning knock. The bulk of the runs will have to come from the bats of Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Mominul Haque has been out of form for quite a while and is under pressure to keep his spot.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is one of the bowlers who could give Pakistan a tough time with his unwavering consistency. He is also a very good batter lower down the order. Bangladesh's bowling is more settled than it has probably ever been. Taskin Ahmed provides a good pace bowling option while Shoriful Islam brings the left-arm angle and variation.

It will be interesting to see if Bangladesh continues with its spin bowling tactics or follows Pakistan's cue to go for a pace heavy attack.

PAK vs BAN Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss will have no hesitation in batting first.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There may be a bit in the surface for the first session of the Test match but that is nothing unexpected. Generally, the pitch at Rawalpindi settles down after the first session and becomes a batting paradise. This match was shifted to Rawalpindi from Karachi pretty late so we don't think the curators would have had the time to alter the characteristics of the surface.

The average score batting first is around 338 and we are sure whichever teams bats first will look to 350 as the bare minimum.

PAK vs BAN Betting Tips

The odds being offered for this match are interesting. Pakistan is the heavy favorite and it is easy to see why. It is playing at home against an opposition that it has dominated in the past. However, we think the markets are overvaluing them a bit. Bangladesh is not the pushover it once was and it certainly has the players to be able to compete.

We also think the flat Rawalpindi surface could make picking up 20 wickets a massive challenge.

A Draw seems to be a good option considering the high odds on offer. 30% of all Tests at Rawalpindi have ended in a Draw and we think this could be another one of them.

Bet on the Draw.
