NZW vs PAKW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 03, 2023

Pakistan Women will start their tour of New Zealand with the first of three T20Is. New Zealand and Pakistan are currently in third and eighth position, respectively, in the International Cricket Council's rankings for women's T20I teams.

Pakistan had two warm-up fixtures in Lincoln, where they won one and lost one. Now, they move to Dunedin, where the opposition and conditions will be tougher. Let's see what the betting odds and cricket markets have in store for this key series opener.

Pakistan Women vs New Zealand Women head-to-head record

Pakistan Women have not beaten New Zealand Women in their last five T20I meetings. New Zealand have won all five. The last time these two teams contested a T20I, though, was five years ago.

NZW vs PAKW Team Previews

New Zealand Women

New Zealand Women will want to win this match and the rest of the series convincingly against opposition they have generally dominated in the past. The New Zealanders have homeground advantage and several other advantages ahead of the series opener in Dunedin.

Batting-wise, Maddy Green, Georgia Plimmer, Isabella Gaze and Bernadine Bezuidenhout are among the names to look out for. These four, partnered with all-rounders Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr will make New Zealand a formidable unit.

Kate Anderson, Eden Carson, Fran Jonas and Jess Kerr typify New Zealand's bowling depth, which also has Molly Penfold, Hannah Rowe and Lea Tahuhu. Devine will captain the team and also have a role to play with the ball alongside her primary responsibility with the bat.

Devine recently returned from playing in the Women's Big Bash League in Australia. That recent experience and game time will count for plenty when it comes to facing Pakistan opposition that only really have two practice matches to go on.

Pakistan Women

Pakistan Women are going to have one of their biggest challenges in a long time in trying to overcome New Zealand, in New Zealand. But they are a confident and spirited squad - and shouldn't be overawed by the occasion away from home.

Muneeba Ali, Najiha Alvi, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Shaweel Zulfiqar and Sidra Ameen will be tasked with scoring the bulk of the runs. Ali has been playing international cricket for five years and struck an impressive 61 against Bangladesh Women relatively recently to reiterate her talent.

Captain Nidar Dar, Aliya Riaz, Bismah Maroof and Fatima Sana are Pakistan Women's four topline all-rounders. Dar has played international cricket for more than a decade and took six wickets in the two warm-up matches that preceded this T20I series.

Diana Baig, Sadia Iqbal, Waheeda Akhtar and Natalia Pervaiz are among Pakistan's other wicket-taking options on this tour. Even though they are in New Zealand, not Pakistan, the visitors can lean heavily on spin. That said, their seamers are going to need to be on point as well.

NZW vs PAKW Toss Prediction

This match will be played at the University Oval in Dunedin, which has hosted just one women's T20I in the past. That was in 2022, when New Zealand beat Bangladesh after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

The team that wins the toss here will likely choose to bat first, too. The toss-winning captain might prefer to set, rather than chase, a target.

Pitch and Conditions

The boundaries will likely be brought in at the University Oval, where a first-innings total of 140 could be competitive. The pitch should provide early swing and perhaps take extra turn later.

It's likely Pakistan will play two specialist spinners - and perhaps open the bowling with one of them. New Zealand could consider the same.

No rain, but cold conditions are predicted for Dunedin on matchday. Pakistan would have acclimatised somewhat so far, but will need to do so more.

NZW vs PAKW Betting Tips

New Zealand Women have a dominant T20I record against Pakistan Women. They have homeground advantage, too. There is a lot here to suggest the home side will win comfortably.

Bet on favourites New Zealand, who are priced at 1.11, to beat 6.50 underdogs Pakistan in this series opener.
