NZ vs PAK Match Prediction - Oct 14, 2022

New Zealand and Pakistan will play the Final of the Tri-Series 2022 and that will also be the last competitive match that the two teams play before the T20 World Cup. It will be interesting to see how the teams approach this Final. It would be good to have a win in a decider but eventually, this series does not stand for much.

Both Pakistan and New Zealand would like to play their first-choice team (of those currently fit and available) together to just test out their combination. This will be the third time that Pakistan and New Zealand play each other in this series with each team having one of the previous two matches.

NZ vs PAK Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand has to be the deserving favorite going into this series. It has been able to set aside a slow start where it lost its opening match to Pakistan and really build some momentum. Three wins on the trot and a number of different players performing are all good signs.

Perhaps the most impressive player for New Zealand so far has been Glenn Phillips. He comes in during the middle or end of the inning and is able to accelerate from ball one. He is also quite useful with his bowling.

The big question that New Zealand has to answer is if Kane Williamson fits into the best playing eleven. Finn Allen and Devon Conway are the first-choice openers but having someone like Martin Guptill at three could be a great option as well.

Good depth in the batting lineup and an excellent bowling attack (that has yet to play at full strength) make New Zealand the deserving favorites in this contest.

New Zealand Playing 11

Devon Conway, Finn Allen, KS Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, TG Southee, Trent Boult, Blair Tickner.

Pakistan pulled off an excellent chase against Bangladesh in its previous match. That was a tricky chase that Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, and then Mohammad Nawaz pull off with ease. It looks more and more likely that Pakistan's best middle-order players are actually its all-rounders, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

Both of them are in tremendous touch and able to attack the bowlers with ease. Expect a lot more of them in the middle during the T20 World Cup.

Perhaps the bowling effort from Pakistan could have been a bit better. They managed to pick up regular wickets but never got the run rate under control. The absence of Shaheen Afridi is obvious in their lineup. It should be kept in mind that Pakistan has not really played its bowling unit so far either.

If Haris Rauf, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, and Naseem Shah all play in the Tri-Series Final, then Pakistan's bowling will be a lot harder to face.

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Haider Ali, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf.

NZ vs PAK Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss will like to field first. All but two of the matches in this Tri-Series have been wno by the team that has chased.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions are expected to be similar to what we have seen so far. A bit cold but dry and overall excellent for cricket. The pitch seems to have become flatter as the matches have progressed. It has also become just a tad bit slower and more helpful for the spinners. The bounce is still steep and can test the batters.

The large outfield has meant that sixes and fours are harder to come by. A score of around 170 is par and anything over 180 is going to be hard to chase down.

NZ vs PAK Betting Tips

We are going to back the home team in this contest. New Zealand has a stronger batting lineup (in terms of batting power) and it also has more depth. Pakistan's opening pair is just at a whole different level but the middle-order is still a bit vulnerable. We also think the bowling attack for both teams is quite evenly matched. The difference may come down to small things like fielding and running between the wickets.

That is where New Zealand could just sprint ahead.

Bet on New Zealand to win.
