NZ vs BAN Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand has had a hectic time over the last few months, as played in England and Bangladesh. To top it off, there was a grueling ODI World Cup, where the ultimate glory continued to elude them. As they now return home, the Black Caps will look to gain an early advantage on Sunday.

The selectors have named a 13-man squad for the ODI series, which has some of the big names missing. The likes of Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner, and Tim Southee have been rested, while Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, and James Neesham are unavailable for selection.

Tom Latham will be leading a fairly young squad and will be the key batsman for the hosts. He will be supported by Rachin Ravindra, who had a brilliant World Cup debut in India. Others in the top order include Tom Blundell, Will Young, and Finn Allen.

Adam Milne will lead the pace attack alongside Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamison, and William O’Rourke. Mark Chapman is likely to feature in the team as an all-rounder, while Ish Sodhi will be the specialist spinner.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh secured a historic Test win against New Zealand earlier this month in a home series. As they now head to New Zealand, the Tigers will look to create more upsets.

Just like the hosts, Bangladesh too is grappling with injuries. Shakib Al-Hasan will miss this tour due to a fractured finger. Similarly, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, and Mahmudullah are recovering from various injuries and are unavailable.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue leading the side and Litton Das is likely to be his deputy. They will share the bulk of the scoring burden. Soumya Sarkar hasn’t played much international cricket in recent times but has been included in the squad.

They will be joined by Towhid Hridoy, Tanzid Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim in the batting line-up. The role of Mehidy Hasan Miraz becomes all the more important in the absence of Shakib. Shoriful Islam is in good form of late and will lead the seam attack along with Tanzim Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud.

However, the form of Mustafizur Rahman is a form of concern.

Rishad Hossain and Rakibul Hasan have been included in the squad as specialist spinners, with both in line to make their ODI debut.

NZ vs BAN Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the University Oval is well-balanced and we can expect an even contest between the bat and the ball. The seamers will be able to generate a good amount of pace and bounce. The ball also swings a bit early on in the match, and the batsmen will need to see off the new ball.

The average first-inning score here is around 250. There isn’t much in the pitch for the spinners.

The weather is likely to remain overcast and there might be some showers causing interruptions.

NZ vs BAN Betting Tips

While Bangladesh played some good cricket in the recent Test series at home, they will find it difficult to replicate that success on the quick and hard pitches in New Zealand. That said, New Zealand is without some of its senior players and will have to play well to see off the Bangladesh challenge.
