NZ vs BAN Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand wasn’t in the best of forms in the run-up to this tournament. The team was also marred by injuries to some of its key players including Kane Williamson and Tim Southee. However, the Black Caps have made full use of the resources at hand and put up a clinical performance so far.

Devon Conway and Will Young make up for a good opening pair and we can expect them to put up a solid opening partnership in this game. Rachin Ravindra is proving to be the find of the tournament thanks to his scintillating batting at number 3 position. He has scored a century and a half-century in his two outings and also picked up a couple of wickets.

What happens when Kane Williamson is fit and available for selection? That will be an interesting question to answer for sure!

The team also has a few other quality all-rounders in the form of Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, and Mitchell Santner, who provide a great deal of flexibility to both, batting as well as bowling.

Tom Latham has proved to be an excellent captain and has marshaled his troops well. Coming to the bowling, Matt Henry has emerged as a prime seamer, picking up 6 wickets in 2 matches. He will have the support of Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult at the other end.

It also must be mentioned that Mitch Santner is one of the smartest spinners going around and his ability vary pace, length, and lines makes him very difficult to attack. His role in Chennai will be crucial.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh made a winning start to their campaign but were overpowered by England in the last match. They have some difficult fixtures coming up over the next few days as they face the likes of New Zealand, India, and South Africa, and will need to bring out their A-game.

The top-order batsmen have done a decent job so far, with the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Litton Das scoring a half-century each. However, the team will need at least one of them to bat till the end and guide them to a big total.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has emerged as an excellent all-rounder over the last few months and he will play an important role in the middle order. Bangladesh will also rely heavily on Shakib Al-Hasan to deliver the goods. He hasn’t been at his fluent best with the bat but has bowled a couple of decent spells with the ball.

Shoriful Islam is the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh so far with 5 wickets, while Shakib and Mahedi Hasan have 4 each. However, the other two seamers, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman haven’t been in the best of forms and will need to bowl a better line and length.

Bangladesh is an average ODI team but when it gets some spin-friendly conditions, it becomes very difficult to beat. That is what they would be hoping for from Chennai in this match.

NZ vs BAN Toss Prediction

The results at the Chidambaram Stadium are skewed in favor of the teams batting first, who have won 56% of the matches compared to 36% percent for the teams batting second. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to bowl first.

Dew was a factor when India played Australia. We believe the advantage to the team batting second is going to be quite significant and should be taken into account before placing your bets.

Pitch and Conditions

While the pitch at Chennai is well-balanced, the last match showed that the surface wasn’t the easiest bat on. The pitch is on the drier side and there are some cracks, which will help the spinners. The surface is a bit two-paced, and the batsmen will need to be on their toes.

A score of around 250 is a par score on this surface.

The weather will be warm and humid, with temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius.

NZ vs BAN Betting Tips

Over the past few years, Bangladesh has emerged as a powerful force, especially in limited-overs cricket, and is not the one to be taken lightly. However, looking at the way New Zealand played in the two matches so far as well as their record against Bangladesh, we feel that they should win this game without any hiccups.

As seen in the last match, the pitch at Chennai isn’t the easiest to bat on. The last 5 ODIs played here have seen an average of 8 wickets fall per inning. We are therefore predicting at least 16 wickets to fall.

Both teams have a good opening pair and all the 4 batsmen are in decent form. We, therefore, think that both teams will score at least 3 runs in the first over. Teams will also be aware that the new ball might be the best time to score and start aggressively.

None of the players from either side have scored a century on this ground. Also, barring Mahmudullah, none of the batsmen from either team has scored a century in a head-to-head World Cup encounter. We are therefore recommending an `Under´ bet for this one.
