NZ vs AUS Team Previews
New Zealand
The New Zealanders can reflect on their defeat in the series opener and know that their effort with the bat did not match that of the Aussies. Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra showed isolated success, but there was not enough support to genuinely better the Australians.
Kane Williamson, who went into the first Test on the back of three centuries against South Africa, managed a mere nine runs in total Wellington. A lot more is needed from the mercurial right-hander this time if New Zealand are going to salvage a series draw at home.
The Kiwis will be without fast bowler William O'Rourke for this match. He has been sidelined by injury. Ben Sears will likely enter the XI as O'Rourke's replacement. Whether New Zealand contemplate other changes to their XI remains in the balance. Spinning all-rounder Mitchell Santer might get a go. There will be plenty of onus on Tim Southee with the ball.
New Zealand Playing 11
Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Scott Kuggeleijn, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Ben Sears.
Australia
Australia were dominant enough in the first Test, but have since fielded plenty of questions around the struggling form of Marnus Labuschagne. He managed just three runs in the series opener and critics are starting to suggest he be dropped from the XI. Captain Pat Cummins has, of course, defended his man. Labuschagne will likely stay.
Elswhere in the batting order, Steven Smith as a newfound opener continues to intrigue. He's a promising partner to fellow opener Usman Khawaja, but isn't yet finding the form he collected for many years in the middle order. Specialist opener Matt Renshaw is waiting in the wings. The good form of first-Test centurion Cameron Green is a big boost for the Australians.
Cummins and fellow fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were particularly menacing in Wellington. They should enjoy the conditions in Christchurch, too, with spinner Nathan Lyon as their outstanding complement - and the occasional seam of Mitchell Marsh available as well.
Australia Playing 11

NZ vs AUS Toss Prediction
This match will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The last three toss here in Test cricket have brought two decisions to bowl first.
It's likely the team to win the toss this time will follow suit and choose to field first, especially if overhead conditions suggest early swing and seam movement for the bowlers.

Pitch and Conditions
Based on recent Test match records at this venue, a first-innnings total of 350-plus can be competitive here. All 40 wickets generally fall at the Hagley Oval, which lends itself to five-day - rather than four- or three-day - Tests.
Both teams should play at least one specialist spinner, though seam is expected to have the biggest say. No rain is forecast in Christchurch over the scheduled five days.
NZ vs AUS Betting Tips
Even with Labuschagne's and the struggles of one or two others, Australia are expected to win here, away from home, and duly whitewash New Zealand.
Bet on 1.50 favourites Australia to beat 3.75 underdogs New Zealand in this match. A draw is priced at 7.00.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Green hit 174 not out and 34 in the first Test. Christchurch conditions might trickier for batting than they were in Wellington, but the big all-rounder is primed for more success with the bat here.
Williamson has collected almost 9,000 Test runs. He won't let a double failure in the series opener to get to him. Anticipate a big performance from the former New Zealand captain.
The home side have a 50 percent chance of winning the toss. Bet on them to do this. If they do, they will probably choose to field first.
Hazlewood took four wickets in the first Test - the most by any Australian seamer in the match. The move from Wellington to Christchurch should be his cue to do well again.
With Trent Boult and O'Rourke out, Southee has a telling task on his hand. But the veteran seamer knows how to succeed in home conditions. He is the man for the big occasion.
