MLRW vs SYTW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Nov 01, 2023

Things had been looking good for the Thunder after two straight wins, but the recent loss to the Hurricanes really spoilt the show. The Renegades, meanwhile, are languishing near the bottom of the table with a 1-3 record that must improve quickly, or they’ll miss out on the playoffs.

Melbourne Renegades Women vs. Sydney Thunder Women will take place Junction Oval, Melbourne, on November 1st. Make sure you use our betting app recommendations for betting on the go.

MLRW vs SYTW Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades Women

The Renegades only lost quite recently to the Thunder, so it will be fascinating to see if they can learn from their mistakes. Another recent loss to the Sixers puts the Melbourne team in second-last place (just ahead of the Sixers), so the clock is ticking for the Renegades to start winning.

The biggest surprise is the poor form of Matthews, who is usually one of the most reliable and exciting T20 batters, but she’s made just 55 runs in four games. In comparison, Beaumont is looking great in the matches (130 runs wit 32.50 average) and Wareham is really helpful in the middle order with 113 runs. We’re waiting for Kaur to pick up the runs again after her hot start, but she’s managed just 92 runs in four games (8 & 11 in her last two).

While it’s still confusing about Matthews’ batting, her bowling is in fine form and she’s continually hitting the mark, especially in her last match with 3/17. She’s bowled 15 overs and has 8/101 so far, so the Renegades always have a chance to win with her bowling. Wareham is solid too with 7/121, but she’ll have to lower that ER.

Hayley Matthews, Tammy Beaumont, Courtney Webb, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jess Duffin, Georgia Wareham, Josephine Dooley, Georgia Prestwidge, Sarah Coyte, Rhiann O' Donnell, Sara Kennedy.

Sydney Thunder Women

The Thunder have certainly been piling on the runs, with Athapaththu (145) and Litchfield (140) becoming two of the best scorers in the entire WBBL. Both batters have scored two half-centuries, although Athapaththu had only 13 in the loss to the Hurricanes. Wilson has been steady with 75 runs, but we’re a little concerned about Knight with only 33 runs.

Somehow, the Thunder have been getting by with great batting and decent bowling, as Athapaththu is the top bowler with 4/71 so far. Knight has been chipping in with 3/65, but her Economy Rate is a little high at 7.22. Kapp hasn’t been performing so well, with 2/57 in 8 overs. If the Thunder are to really beat the top teams, then they’ll need better bowling than this.

MLRW vs SYTW Toss Prediction

Lately, the team batting first has been able to capitalise on the surroundings and get the win. So far 19/35 WBBL games have been won by the team batting first, as opposed to 16 when bowling first.

Pitch and Conditions

The Junction Oval has been providing a good wicket for batting, with a fairly predictable bounce and fast outfield. Spinners are able to find some turn and bowlers have been lucky enough with batters’ mistiming shots, so overall it’s balanced. Expect a first innings score around 160.

MLRW vs SYTW Betting Tips

Both teams have had a recent loss, but based on the Dafabet odds, we feel like it’s a superior bet to choose the Renegades here. Although the Thunder have two great batters with Athapaththu and Litchfield, Melbourne still has its fair share of talented players like Beaumont and Wareham. It wouldn’t hurt if either Matthews or Kaur can step up a gear and make a half-century, and hopefully the team has Webb back, who missed the last game.

The Thunder’s bowling hasn’t been spectacular and despite the fact they’ve beaten the Renegades already once this season, we think that Melbourne is skilled enough to get their act together and reel off the start of many victories.

Bet on the Renegades to win.

Beaumont is yet to hit a 50 yet, but she's been very close all season. We feel like it's only a matter of time before she gets one, as she's averaging 32.50 at the moment and been very efficient with 130 runs. Those are some good odds as well.

The Junction Oval pitch has been very kind to batters lately, especially in the first innings, so we feel like there's a good chance that a player could get a quick double from the first ball thanks to the fast outfield. Both teams have capable batters, so it doesn't matter which squad is in first.

Sydney Thunder Top Batter: Phoebe Litchfield

Honestly, it could be either Litchfield or Athapaththu, as they are both batting very well at the moment. However, you'll get a better return if choosing Litchfield and she is in form with 68 runs from her last game.
