JT vs SNP Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 16, 2023

Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will play the 27th match of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League. The Tallawahs and Patriots currently occupy fifth and sixth position, respectively, in this season's six-team standings. Both teams are all but out of contention for a berth in the play-off stage of the tournament.

Let's see what the betting odds and cricket markets have in store for this clash between the current title holders Jamaica and 2021 champions St Kitts and Nevis. There will be plenty of local and international talent to bet on.

Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots head-to-head record

The Tallawahs have three wins to the Patriots' two in their last five meetings. When they met earlier in the 2023 CPL, Jamaica won comfortably.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Jamaica's push for a successful title defence is effectively over. Their 2023 campaign started promisingly with two wins, but they have since slipped to five successive defeats. Their most recent defeat was to Guyana Amazon Warriors, which at least brought a return to form for captain Brandon King.

King put three single-figure contributions behind him with a brisk half-century against the Amazon Warriors. It didn't bring victory, but perhaps gave the Tallawahs some inspiration for the remainder of this season. King, alongside England recruit Alex Hales, make for an imposing opening partnership.

It's worth noting that King sustained a groin injury during his half-ton against Guyana. Whether he is fit enough to play in this match remains in the balance. If he can't play, the Tallawahs will need to look to their bench strength - or perhaps push batter Kirk McKenzie up the order. They're already trying to get all-rounder Imad Wasim to the crease earlier than usual.

Bowling-wise, seamer Salman Irshad has stretched ahead of team-mate and fellow Pakistan recruit Mohammad Amir. Irshad has 10 wickets this CPL season to Amir's nine. Spinners Wasim and Chris Green have eight each. It'll be interesting to see if Amir returns to the XI for this match and if they continue to open the bowling with a spinner.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Patriots still have only one win to show for the 2023 CPL campaign. That victory was their most recent result. Beating the St Lucia Kings could prime them for doing the same against Jamaica. At the very least, that win ended a six-match losing streak.

Spinner Ashmead Nedd played just his first match of this CPL season against the Kings. He took two wickets and was their top bowler in the match. He'll likely be kept in the XI for this match, bowling alongside fellow local talents Oshane Thomas and Dominic Drakes.

Opener Andre Fletcher played a near lone hand against the Kings. His 93 not out accounted for almost two-thirds of his team's winning total of 150 for six. The next highest individual score was middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford's 17. Rutherford, meanwhile, has evidently relinquished the Patriots captaincy to opener Evin Lewis.

St Kitts and Nevis have two of the best all-rounders in the domestic game in South Africans George Linde and Corbin Bosch. If they can extract even more from the pair, with the bat in particular, the Patriots' second win of the 2023 CPL should be on the cards.

JT vs SNP Toss Prediction

The team to win the toss will likely opt to bowl first. This was largely the trend in Providence during the 2022 CPL and the same pattern is emerging at this ground this season.

Four of Jamaica's last five defeats have come after batting first. They might want to bat second this time. Four of the six results during the Patriots' streak of six successive losses came after batting first. They, too, might look to bowl first based on this statistic.

Pitch and Conditions

Last year and this season's records at this ground suggest a first-innings total of 170 should be competitive. Conditions are suited to playing at least two specialist spinners - and opening the bowling with one of them. Seamers with good variations, including taking pace off the ball, tend to do well here.

The weather forecast suggests the possibility of rain in Providence. But we've seen this previously this week, too. Even if there are showers in the region around matchday, they won't likely be heavy enough to shorten the fixture. Humidity levels are bound to be characteristically high as well.

JT vs SNP Betting Tips

The clash at the bottom of the points table will probably come down to who wants the win - not who needs it - most on the day. Having registered their first win of the CPL season recently, the Patriots are looking in the stronger position to win here.

Jamaica's fight straight losses have removed plenty of momentum. They're still priced as the match favourites at 1.74, though. The Patriots are offered as underdogs at 2.10.

Fletcher is the second-highest run-scorer in this season's CPL. He almost hit a century against the Kings recently. Before that, he collected a half-ton against Barbados Royals. He is a solid pick for top Patriots' batter in this match, too.

Irshad is Jamaica's leading wicket-taker this season and joint third-highest in this year's CPL overall. Conditions in Providence should suit him. He could be a good choice as the Tallawahs' top bowler in this match.

Corbin Bosch to be Player of the Match

Given their opportunity to perform well with bat and ball, backing an all-rounder in the Player of the Match markets can be a wise decision. Bosch is among the best and has taken at least one wicket in each of his last five CPL appearances. He has also weighed in with at least three important cameos with the bat.
