IREW vs AUSW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 23, 2023

Australia is fresh off winning the Women’s Ashes against England, but there’s little time to rest, as they’ll make a tour of Ireland for a three-game ODI series. Meanwhile, Ireland was recently crushed 3-0 by the West Indies in a T20I series.

These two countries haven’t played a standalone ODI series since 2005! The last game was a victory for Australia by a staggering 240 runs. Ireland Women vs. Australia Women will be played at Castle Avenue, Dublin, on July 23rd. Don't forget to look at all the recent betting odds for all major cricket matches.

IREW vs AUSW Team Previews

Ireland Women

There’s no doubt that Ireland will have a tough challenge here, but if there’s any chance, then it’ll be from batter Gaby Lewis. She’s been in excellent form of late, particularly in the West Indies ODI series, where she was the top scorer with 188 runs.

Lewis’ ODI batting average is a bit low right now at 31.40, especially compared to the Aussies, but if she and Delaney (276 runs in her last 9 matches) can put up a good fight, then there’s hope.

The Irish bowlers didn’t have much luck against the Windies, as Murray was the top bowler with 3/86, which is really saying something. Murray’s bowling average is a bit higher than you’d like at 37.60, but she’s still the best option, along with Kelly. They’ll have to bowl the greatest of their lives to beat Oz’s Perry and Mooney.

Australia Women

Although Australia did technically win the Women’s Ashes against England, it wasn’t the best cricket we’ve ever seen by Oz. They lost two of the three ODI games in the series, and weren’t as unified as we’ve seen them in the past.

As usual, you’d expect Perry (ODI average: 50.29) and Mooney (ODI average: 53.10) to be the star batters of the show, as they were excellent in the Ashes, with Perry scoring 185 and Mooney picking up 130. Healy, usually an excellent batter, was a bit worrying after finishing the series with just 28 runs.

It’s lucky that Australia has Gardner in the squad, as her bowling is some of the best in the world for women’s cricket. In her last 10 matches, she’s picked up 19 wickets and has a stunning ER of 4.14. In the Ashes series alone, she took 9/135 and was instrumental in the games.

There’s a bit of a gap to the next great bowler, but King or Jonassen should be good enough, with Jonassen having 16 wickets in her last 10 games.

IREW vs AUSW Toss Prediction

Captains will almost certainly prefer to bowl first if winning the toss. Based on 24 ODI matches played here, 14 have won when batting second, so it appears to be the better option.

Pitch and Conditions

The Castle Avenue pitch is usually regarded as a bowlers’ paradise, as it’s often not providing much bounce but does have a fair bit of movement for spinners. The outfield isn’t too quick, so batters may struggle to find a lot of fours.

IREW vs AUSW Betting Tips

If you look at the odds over at Parimatch, then it’s clear that there’s little optimism for Ireland, considering that Oz are the clear favourites. However, the odds for Australia to win are barely worth it, as you’d basically only win back what you’d bet. There’s almost no return at all! Betting on Ireland is a risk, but that’s still the best chance to win some money.

Ireland can possibly earn a victory if Lewis can hit around 150 and gets some help from Delaney. Plus, the Irish bowlers like Murray will really have to limit the runs from big hitters like Mooney, Healy, and Perry. Australia wasn’t incredible against England, so Ireland might capitalise on this recent play.

Bet on Ireland to win.

As she's averaging 50.29 right now in ODI games, there's a strong chance that Perry can pick up a 50 against a weaker bowling attack from Ireland. What's more, she's in great form at the moment and scored three half-centuries in her last 5 games. She was the top scorer in the ODI series versus England, as well.

She's currently averaging 31.40 in ODI games and is clearly Ireland's best batter. That's an achievable total for Lewis and she'll certainly be aiming for more. She did pick up 188 runs in a three-game series against the West Indies, so Lewis is batting well at the moment.

Beth Mooney Total Runs - 50 Overs (32.5): Over

Mooney is perhaps the most reliable batter in this Aussie team. She's averaging 53.10 in ODI games and had a big 81* against England recently. She'll be able to pick apart the Irish bowlers even on a pitch that's not ideal for batting.
