GLA vs MID Match Prediction - Jul 02, 2023

It’s going to be another disappointing end to the T20 Blast season for both Glamorgan and Middlesex. These squads finished outside of the top four in the 2022 campaign, and this is again the case in 2023 as this is the last game for each squad.

In the South Group, Glamorgan (5-7) will finish in the 6th spot with 10 points, while Middlesex (1-11) have had their worst season in a long time with just two points. These teams will just focus on other cricket formats and find a way to improve the T20 squads for 2024.

Glamorgan vs. Middlesex will take place at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on July 2nd. Don't forget to look at these cricket betting tips for other matches.

GLA vs MID Team Previews

Glamorgan

Glamorgan finished in 6th place for the second year in a row, which is not quite rock bottom but still not challenging for a spot in the final four. Three losses in a row really put an end to the 2023 campaign, after what could have been a promising start.

Cooke was one of Glamorgan's best batters (408 runs) and had a massive score of 113* during the start of the season, but has remained subdued after that, picking up only 20 runs in his previous two games. Ingram (329) has performed well enough, while Northeast (313), with outings of 44 and 60, has looked far more improved in the latter part of the season. Glamorgan's batsmen have struggled against stronger teams, while usually dispatching teams below them.

We've seen occasional good bowling from the team, especially from McIlroy (18/420) and Hatzoglou (14/387), yet it's clear that neither is efficient enough in stopping runs from their overs, and there are too many successive games without taking any wickets.

Glamorgan Playing 11

Sam Northeast, Kiran Carlson, Colin Ingram, Tom Bevan, William Smale, Chris Cooke, Andy Gorvin, Timm van der Gugten, Ruaidhri Smith, Prem Sisodiya, Peter Hatzoglou.

Middlesex

There was a clear hierarchy in the Middlesex batting order, as you have to say that Eskinazi (415 runs) and Holden (400) had a good season. There was a big drop-off after that, as it appeared that Middlesex put their trust in basically two batters. Higgins was the next-best scorer with 243 runs, but it’s a shame that the team just couldn’t find any consistency with their batting.

The bowling is really where Middlesex failed, as they simply let opposing batsmen walk all over them, with no threats or pressure to slow down the scoring. Andersson was the top bowler with 10/351 (ER: 11.02) and Helm was second with 10/451 (ER: 10.61). It’s clear that major changes are needed to upgrade their bowling attack next season.

GLA vs MID Toss Prediction

In T20 games played here, it's hard to decide on batting or bowling first. Out of 59 T20, 28 have won batting first, and 29 have won batting second. Teams may still prefer to bowl first if winning the toss to better evaluate the pitch.

Pitch and Conditions

The Sophia Gardens pitch typically sees considerable bounce and swing, which pace bowlers will absolutely adore. The outfield isn't quite as rapid as other venues, and the new ball will see a lot of movement, therefore it may be a low-scoring game of around 150.

GLA vs MID Betting Tips

There’s little fanfare here, but as the Fun88 odds for Middlesex are really high and they are the clear underdog, you might as well place a bet on them. The team has nothing to lose, as they can’t get any worse, and Glamorgan is hardly a threatening opponent lately. If Eskinazi and Holden could each pick up half-centuries or more, and the Middlesex bowlers can do enough to limit the runs, then the team can pick up their second victory.

Bet on Middlesex to win.

Even though Middlesex have played poor as a team this season, Holden's 415 are still impressive. He's a ready-made scorer and recently made 68* against Surrey and 121* versus Kent. His odds are better Eskinazi, so it's a good bet.

    Glamorgan Top Batter: Chris Cooke

His last few scores have been low, but he should be ready for another big result. He's picked up 419 total runs this season, and was great against Surrey with 49. He has the best odds out of all the other Glamorgan batsmen, so it's a worthwhile bet to make.

Those odds are hard to ignore. Middlesex has a good chance to win, because they haven't been much worse than Glamorgan, and have played well at times. If they're lucky with the toss, then this bet is great.
