Galle Titans got off to an excellent start by grabbing a couple of points in a high-pressure match. They followed that up with a massive win over B-Love Kandy but have failed to impress ever since. They are on a two-match losing streak, with those losses coming against Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers. Both those losses were comprehensive as Galle Titans failed to do anything remarkable. In Spite of those losses, the Titans are placed at the second spot on the ladder with four points to their name and a net run-rate of 0.230. A loss here, however, is certainly going to hurt them badly. A win though could push them to the top of the ladder and that is what they will be aiming for. 

In a striking turn of events, the Titans, after opting to bat, showcased an impressive performance, amassing a commendable total of 188/3 within the allotted 20 overs. Tim Seifert displayed brilliance with an unbeaten half-century, scoring 54 off 35 deliveries, laced with four boundaries and three sixes. Accompanying him, Shevon Daniel's swift 49 from 31 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes, added to the Titans' solid foundation.

Additional significant contributions came from Lasith Croospulle (36 off 19) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (30 off 31). The Strikers, despite their efforts, managed to secure just one wicket each, with Naseem Shah, Ramesh Mendis, and Lakshan Sandakan doing the damage.

Impressively and much to the Strikers’ delight, the Colombo Strikers clinched a close seven-wicket victory, elevating their position to third in the LPL standings with four points from as many matches. On the other hand, the Titans maintained their second spot due to a superior net run rate.

Galle Titans experienced the brilliance of Babar Azam firsthand as the Colombo Strikers chased down their formidable total of 188/3. Struggling with the ball, the Titans found it challenging to defend even an above-par score. Enduring two consecutive losses, the Titans face an uphill battle to return to their winning ways. Nevertheless, boasting a strong lineup, if they manage to tighten their bowling performance, they could become a formidable force hard to beat.

Kandy Warriors

Just when B-Love Kandy were looking down and out from the tournament, they scraped a couple of back to back wins to bounce back into the reckoning. Although they are still placed at the bottom of the points table, it’s more because of their net run-rate which currently stands at -0.562. A win here will push them to the second spot and that is exactly what they will be aiming for. 

Following a rocky start to the 2023 Lanka Premier League, B-Love Kandy turned their fortunes around with two consecutive wins, boosting the team's morale. Their recent victory, an impressive display of dominance, involved thrashing the reigning champions Jaffna Kings by eight wickets. Kandy's bowlers locked down the Kings, restricting them to a mere 117/9 in 20 overs. The chase was comfortably executed with seven overs to spare.

B-Love Kandy's decision to bowl first proved beneficial as Angelo Mathews' remarkable pace bowling quickly removed Rahmanulla Gurbaz and Charith Asalanka, reducing Jaffna Kings to 7-2 in just the third over. Later, Dunith Wellalage's valiant knock rescued the Kings, pushing their total to 117/6 in 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figures of 3-9. Nuwan Pradeep picked up 3 wickets as well but conceded 36 runs in the process. 

During their run chase, B-Love Kandy initially adopted a cautious approach, owing to their early losses in the tournament, scoring just 31 runs in the powerplay. However, an explosive partnership between Wanindu Hasaranga and Fakhar Zaman, adding 71 runs in 36 balls for the second wicket, turned the tide completely in Kandy's favor. Fakhar contributed a solid 42 off 39 deliveries, but it was Hasaranga's aggressive approach that stole the show, with a blistering 52 off 22 balls.

With this victory, B-Love Kandy secured the fourth position in the LPL standings, while Jaffna Kings are currently at the third position, thanks to their superior net run rate. B-Love Kandy would want to get things brighter by winning this upcoming contest as well. With their stars contributing well, it is certainly very much possible even against better seeded Galle Titans.
