ENG vs NZ Team Previews
England
After losing the first ODI, England made an excellent comeback to win consecutive matches and are now leading the series. As the team fine-tunes its squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, they will look to make the most out of this match.
The 3rd ODI saw a sensational batting performance by England batsmen in general and Ben Stokes in particular. Stokes, who has come back from retirement to help his team defend the World title, pulverized the New Zealand bowling to smash 182 runs from just 124 balls, which is the highest score of an English batsman in ODIs.
He partnered with Malan, who scored a well-made 96 runs, to put up a 199-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to set the foundation for a mammoth total. With Liam Livingstone and Jos Buttler getting some runs under their belt too, the middle order looks sorted for the hosts.
However, the form of Johnny Bairstow and Joe Root remains a bit of a concern. The bowlers have done a decent job so far. Betting against Root might be the way to go in this match as well.
Reece Topley is the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets and has received good support from Chris Woakes and Liam Livingstone. There are also two other seamers in the form of Sam Curran and Gus Atkinson. However, the spin department is a bit understaffed.
England Playing 11
Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Brydon Carse, Reece Topley.
New Zealand
The New Zealanders had a forgettable night on Wednesday as barring the 5-wicket haul for Trent Boult, they had nothing to cheer about. Ben Lister picked up 3 wickets but was quite expensive, while the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson, and Glenn Phillips were taken for runs all around the park.
Phillips did put up a good batting effort to score 76 runs but that wasn’t enough to overcome the huge target, especially as wickets around him continued to tumble.
New Zealand has some excellent players in the team but they will need to work better together as a unit. Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham haven’t been able to score the runs, while Devon Conway, who scored a century in the first ODI, has been unable to follow up.
There is no doubt that as an ODI team, New Zealand has a lot of depth and flexibility thanks to the number of players in its squad that can both bat and bowl. The problem seems to be in finding a level of consistecy as a team. The potential of this team has not been fulfilled so far and that could be because of the pressure that England has been able to exert.
New Zealand Playing 11
Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Henry Nicholls, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Benjamin Lister.
ENG vs NZ Toss Prediction
Each of the last 8 ODIs at Lord’s was won while batting first. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to bat first.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Lord’s is well-balanced and we can expect an even contest between the bat and the ball. The average first-inning score here is around 240, which is a par score. Anything over 260 will be tricky to chase. The pitch has some grass over it and the seamers will have a good time with the ball.
The weather will remain clear for most of the time and the temperature will remain below 25 degrees Celsius.
ENG vs NZ Betting Tips
Looking at the way England has played in the last 2 matches, we feel it will be very difficult for New Zealand to come back in the game. England's batting is in great form and the bowling also seems to be coming together nicely. New Zealand has to be exceptional across the board to be able to win and we don't see that happening.
Bet on England to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Each of the last 13 ODIs at Lord’s has seen at least 16 wickets fall. As both teams have some talented bowlers at their disposal, we are predicting a similar outcome.
The pitch at Lord’s isn’t the easiest to bat on. Only two batsmen from the current crop of players have been able to reach triple digits on this ground. We, therefore, think that it is unlikely to see a score of over 103.5 in this match.
Trent Boult is in good form on this tour. He has picked up at least 3 wickets in both matches he has played and we are backing him to do so again.
