Durban Super Giants

Durban won three matches in a row - against MI Cape Town, the Sunrisers and Joburg Super Kings - before losing to the Pretoria Capitals. Despite the defeat to the Capitals, the Super Giants remain among the early title contenders. But they will be hard pressed against the reigning champions Eastern Cape again.

West Indian batter Nicholas Pooran has exited Durban's campaign to join MI Emirates in the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates. He has effectively been replaced in the Super Kings' XI by Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who can again add value with bat and ball.

Trio Heinrich Klaasen, Matthew Breetzke and Jon-Jon Smuts are Durban's leading run-scorers so far this SA20 season. They should be key again in this fixture, especially in the absence of Pooran. Klaasen was the team's leading run-scorer last year and, this season, has already collected two half-centuries.

Bowling-wise, seamer Reece Topley has taken seven wickets for the Super Giants in this year's SA20. As one of the leading left-arm seamers in the tournament, the onus will be on Topley to lead the bowling attack again. Spin-wise, captain Keshav Maharaj will be a big asset in Durban conditions.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The Sunrisers will head into this match after sharing a washout with the Joburg Super Kings, losing to the Super Giants and beating MI Cape Town. They will be eager to avenge that loss to Durban a week ago. Here's their opportunity to do so at the opposition's homeground.

The arrival of England batter Dawid Malan to the Sunrisers' squad is a big boost for the remainder of their campaign. He made an immediate impact after entering the XI by hitting a match-winning 53 against Cape Town recently. Local talent Jordan Hermann, meanwhile, gathered plenty of attention for the rest of the tournament en route to a blistering century.

The Sunrisers' bowling resources is a point of contention for now. They have only taken eight wickets this SA20 season. Seamers Daniel Worrall and Ottniel Baartman have shared six of those. The team is struggling without seamers Sisanda Magala and Craig Overton, who withdrew shortly before the start of the competition.

There is a lot of pressure on the Eastern Cape team to put together a successful title defence after winning the inaugural SA20 last year. Their 2024 campaign has endured a stop-start beginning. A second successive win here, though, could put them on the right track.
