BAN vs AFG Team Previews

Bangladesh

In the past couple of years, Bangladesh has emerged as a substantial force when it comes to limited-overs cricket. They have defeated top teams including England and India in One Day Internationals during the last few months. But when it comes to their performance in the longest format of the game, there is a lot to be desired. Bangladesh has lost 8 of the last 10 Test matches they have played and managed to win just 1.

The team has received a major blow ahead of the start of this game as Shakib Al Hasan will miss out on this match due to an injury. In his absence, Litton Das will lead the team and will play an important role with the bat. Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hasan Shanto are likely to start the batting, while Mominul Haque will come in at number 3.

Mushfiqur Rahim will be another key player for Bangladesh as he has shown some excellent form in the last few matches. In the absence of Shakib, all eyes will be on Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has made his mark as a quality all-rounder.

Coming to the bowling, Bangladesh has a pretty strong seam attack made up of Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Khaled Ahmed. The absence of Shakib does leave a void in the spin attack and the team will have to depend on Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam to bowl well.

Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan doesn’t have much experience when it comes to playing Test cricket as the team has featured in just 6 matches so far. The last time they played a 5-day match was back in March 2021.

Afghanistan's two key players, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are set to miss out on this game due to injury concerns. The team will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, who is a solid performer in the middle order. Abdul Malik and Ibrahim Zadran are expected to open the batting for the visitors.

The team will depend on the likes of Bahir Shah and Nasir Jamal to play a big inning in the middle order. Afghanistan has some good all-rounders in the form of Karim Janat, Rahmat Shah, and Amir Hamza, who add depth to the batting.

Leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed is likely to earn his maiden international call here and will play an important role in the absence of Rashid Khan. He will be joined by Zahir Khan at the other end. Yamin Ahmadzai and Karim Janat are likely to start the proceedings with the new ball. Afghanistan has also included debutant seamers Mohammad Ibrahim and Nijat Masoud on the squad.

BAN vs AFG Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Shere Bangla Stadium is good to bat on for the first couple of days but is likely to get difficult as days progress. There is a good amount of bounce on offer and the surface is likely to be on the drier side. The average first-inning score here is around 330. The spinners will have the upper hand in the last couple of days and anything over 200 will be difficult to chase here in the 4th inning.

The weather is expected to remain warm and humid and there are chances of rain throughout the week.

BAN vs AFG Betting Tips

While Afghanistan did win the only previous test encounter between the two teams, we feel it is unlikely that they can get a similar outcome here. The team is missing two of their key spinners, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and that can greatly affect their chances here.

Bet on Bangladesh to win.
