After an unbelievable end to the Test series, it is time for the ODI series between Australia and the West Indies to start. On paper, there is a gulf of difference between the two teams. Australia are the current ODI World Champions while the West Indies failed to qualify for the World Cup at all.
The odds are also priced accordingly with Australia the overwhelming favorite. As punters would know, though, the West Indies is not a team that should be written off.

AUS vs WI Team Previews
Australia
Australia will be led by Steve Smith for this series as Pat Cummins (and the rest of the first-choice fast bowlers) are rested for this series. The depth in the Australian cricket system means that this will not impact the Australian chances of winning in the least.
The batting lineup features Travis Head, Matthew Short, and possibly Jake Fraser-McGurk in the top order followed by Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Cameron Green. Marnus Labuschagne may miss out in selection after a continued poor run in the lead up to this series.
Adam Zampa will be the first choice spinner with Lance Morris (extreme pace), Nathan Ellis (Change-up specialist), and Jhye Richardson/Sean Abbott/Will Sutherland taking up the remaining place.
Whatever the Australians decide to go for, they will have plenty of batting depth and a lot of bowling firepower at their disposal.

West Indies
West Indies uncovered some heroes in the Test series and it will need to find some more in the ODI's to be able to compete against Australia. Shai Hope will lead the team and is also the best batter in the lineup. He has taken a more aggressive approach tp batting in the last few months and that seems to be paying off.
The rest of the batting lineup seems to be a bit lacking. Roston Chase, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, and Keacy Carty could all feature in the lineup. All of these players can bat but neither of them has yet had any significant success at the international level.
Depth in the lineup thanks to the presence of Romario Shepherd and Alzarri Joseph could prove to be vital for the West Indies. Overall, though, we don't see them getting enough runs or dominating with the bat for long periods.
The bowling lineup will be led by Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd but once again, the support cast is very thin. Gudakesh Motie, Hayden Walsh, and Oshane Thomas are in the lineup. SOmeone like Justin Greaves (an all-rounder) could also fill the role of a bowler.
There is no shortage of all-rounders in the West Indian team but finding top-notch quality is not easy either.

Pitch and Conditions
The weather in Melbourne is expected to be excellent on match day. It will be comfortable in terms of heat and should remain clear all throughout. The pitch should be flat and good for batting. The spinners have tended to get some help in Melbourne in the last few matches and that may indicate a good haul for Adam Zampa in this match.
