AUS vs PAK Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 14, 2023

The Australia Test summer is here and they will be starting off with a three-match Test Series against Pakistan. The Aussies rested their first-choice players after winning the World Cup and now the full-strength team is expected to face Pakistan. A new captain, a new coach, and many more changes suggest Pakistan is not very well-settled right now.

Of all the places in the cricketing world, Australia is not one place where you want to come with any doubts about your abilities.

Australia vs Pakistan Test Match Head-to-Head

Australia and Pakistan have played 69 Test Matches against each other with Australia winning 34, Pakistan 15, and 20 Draws. More importantly, Australia has not lost a Test match to Pakistan at home since 1995. They have played 14 Test matches in Australia since then with Pakistan losing all of them. Three out of the last four defeats were by an inning and the fourth was by 220 runs.

You can see why even the best betting sites in Asia cannot offer compelling odds on Australia to win right now.

AUS vs PAK Team Previews

Australia

Australia has not announced its playing eleven but it is clear that they will play their strongest eleven. That means David Warner and Usman Khawaja will open the batting followed by Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Travis Head. This is a strong middle-order, particularly when playing at home and against a bowling attack that does not seem too threatening.

Mitchell Marsh is set to return to the Test side at number 6 with Alex Carey following at number 7. The depth in the batting is incredible and all seven of the batters are capable of playing a match-winning inning.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, and Nathan Lyon are going to be the four bowlers that start the Test summer. This obviously means that Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh will be bowling a few overs as well.

We don't think anyone would doubt the abilities of this Australian attack to be able to take 20 wickets at home against Pakistan. Australia is well-settled, used to dominating at home, and is playing at one of the bounciest wickets in the country.

Everything is loaded in its favor and it is easy to see why the different cricket betting apps have it as the overwhelming favorite to win.

Australia Playing 11

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

Pakistan

Pakistan played its warm-up match in Canberra on a wicket that Mohammad Hafeez (the new coach/team director) called as the slowest wicket in Australia and a deliberate ploy by the home team. That seems to suggest that Australia is treating Pakistan as a serious threat, something which we highly doubt.

In fact, most Australians would be hoping for Pakistan to be at its best so that the Test series is competitive.

Shan Masood, the opening batter and captain, scored a double-century. He is an excellent batter and alongside Babar Azam, is the only real hope for consistent big scores. Imam ul Haq, Abdullah Shafique, and Saim Ayub are some of the other players in the squad that could feature in the playing eleven.

We hope to see Saim Ayub get a chance. He is an aggressive left-hander that will take the game on while Abdullah Shafique appears to be a high-quality batter suited to the international level. We don't think getting runs is going to be a problem for the Pakistani team.

The challenge will be picking 20 wickets. Shaheen Afridi is down on pace and may not get the swing needed to be at his best. Abrar Ahmed has been ruled out of this match and the backup spinner is likely to be a finger-spinning off-spinner. Australia is one of the toughest places for them to do well.

Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jr may be the other fast bowling options with support from Faheem Ashraf, if he finds a place in the team.

Pakistan Playing 11

Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Agha Salman, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Aamer Jamal, Khurram Shehzad.

AUS vs PAK Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss may want to bat first. The surface will be hard and fast but cracks could open up on the surface as the game progresses and make batting quite a bit more difficult in the fourth inning.

Pitch and Conditions

The Perth Stadium will feature a drop-in surface that has been designed to be as similar to the old WACA surface as possible. That means you can expect it to be hard, fast, and bouncy. There is going to be a lot of help for the bowlers but batters that can adjust to the conditions are likely to score freely as well.

Virat Kohli scored a memorable century when his team was on the mat in the first match at the Perth Stadium. Can Babar Azam repeat the same and continue to lay claim to his crown? It will be interesting to watch but we are not going to be betting on it!

AUS vs PAK Betting Tips

There is absolutely no doubt in our mind that Australia is the team to back here. Australia has dominated Test cricket at home for almost a decade now against all teams (England and India being the exceptions) but particularly against Pakistan.

Not only does Australia have a better bowling lineup but its batting is also extremely dominant in home conditions. Pakistan has the batting to put up a fight but Test matches are won by the strength of the bowling attack and that is where they will be let down.

The odds are a bit on the lower side but that is a trend that will run through the entire Test series. With Pakistan struggling in the bowling department and Australia absolutely stacked with batters that love batting at home, this bet is a no-brainer.

It was not too far back that Marnus Labuschagne was the top ranked Test batter in the world. His career average is 53.36 but his average in Australia 70.50 with nine 100's and nine 50's from just 37 inning. To get a 76% return on this bet is extremely good value.

Perth has a reputation for being very bowler friendly but that is not always the case, especially at the new Perth Stadium. Even if the surface is fast and bouncy, we expect at least one of the batters from either side in either inning to get a century. That is all you need to win. Go for it.
