Afghanistan has put up a sensational performance over the last few days and scripted one of the biggest updates in recent ODI history. They will now hope to keep up with the momentum and will go for the jugular on Sunday.

The opening batsmen did a fantastic job, giving the team a stable start and a platform to put up a big total. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a brilliant century on a pitch that wasn’t the easiest to bat on.

The middle order has played well in both the games and will once again look to put up a good show. Azmatullah Omarzai has been pretty consistent and is the tournament’s leading run-scorer. He will be supported by the likes of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, and Mohammad Nabi.

Coming to the bowling, Afghanistan will once again rely on its quality spin attack to deliver the goods. Rashid Khan and Nangeyalia Kharote picked up 9 wickets between them on Friday.

They will be supported by Allah Ghaznafar during the middle overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi is likely to lead the pace attack. 

South Africa

South Africa has been left stunned by Afghanistan in this series. While losing the first ODI could have been considered an aberration, the result of the second ODI has shown that the visitors have clearly been outplayed in all aspects of the game.

While one should take note that South Africa has selected a relatively young squad for this tour, they still have plenty of experienced players like Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks, and Lungi Ngidi, none of whom have been able to salvage the team’s reputation.

The batting hasn’t been up to the mark for South Africa. Despite having players like Tristan Stubbs, Tony de Zorzi, and Paul Verreynne, the team has been unable to put up big totals in both matches.

That said, there is plenty of depth in the batting thanks to the presence of all-rounders like Wiaan Mulder and the team will hope to put up a better performance this time around.

The bowling has been equally inconsistent. Ngidi, Bjorn Fortuin, and Markram have all picked up 2 wickets each but have often been expensive and they have been unable to put the opposition under any sort of pressure. South Africa needs to go back to the drawing board if they want to end the series on a positive note.
