Perry has scored 316 runs at an average of 63.20. She has been the top batter for her team in 4 of the 7 games played so far. Seeing her form, we are expecting Perry to play another good knock.
Knight is in excellent form this year and is averaging 45.20. She scored 20 or more runs in 5 of her last 6 innings this year and could do so again in this game.
It's the Sydney derby in the WBBL as Thunder takes on the Sixers. Traditionally, it has been the Sixers that have dominated this rivalry but Thunder is in terrific form and is sitting right at the top of the points table. We have an exciting match ahead with the potential for plenty of twists!
The two teams have faced each other in 18 completed games to date. The Sixers won 10 while Thunder managed to win 8.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Sydney Thunder is among the most consistent teams this season, winning 5 of the 7 matches it has played. It is currently placed at the top of the points table.
Georgia Voll and Heather Knight are in excellent form with the bat and have scored 2 half-centuries each. They are also the top two run-getters for the team so far. Phoebe Litchfield and Chamari Athapaththu will support them.
The lower middle order consisting of Anika Learoyd, Tahlia Wilson, and Sammy Jo-Johnson hasn’t had much to do and has remained relatively untested. Bowling was another highlight of Thunder’s performance.
Samantha Bates is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, having 16 wickets. She, along with Athapaththu, makes up for a strong spin attack. The quicker bowlers have done a decent job as well, with Shabnim Ismail, Taneale Peschel, and Hannah Darlington picking up 24 wickets between them.
The Sydney Sixers haven’t been consistent this year and are coming into this contest on the back of consecutive losses. They are 6th on the points table and if they lose here, quantifying for the playoffs could become very difficult.
Barring Ellyse Perry, none of the batters have been able to make much of an impact on the proceedings. Perry is the leading run-scorer for the team with 316 runs. She is likely to be joined by Alyssa Healy at the top of the order.
The middle order consists of experienced all-rounders like Amelia Kerr, Ashleigh Gardner, and Hollie Armitage, while wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce will come in lower down. The Sixers will need at least a couple of them to play well.
The bowling from them hasn’t been the best as well. Sophie Ecclestone is the leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets but has been a bit expensive at times. She will be joined by Amelia Kerr and Ashleigh Gardner in the spin department. Kerr did bowl well in the previous game, picking up 4 wickets.
The Sixers will expect a similar performance from her. Lauren Cheatle, Ellyse Perry, and Caoimhe Bray are the three seamers who have picked up 6 wickets each.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the Drummoyne Oval is expected to be good to bat on. The surface is hard and flat and offers plenty of bounce and pace. A score of around 160 is a par score on this ground. The pitch is likely to slow down a bit in the second and the bowlers who bowl a good line and length will be rewarded with wickets.
The weather here is likely to remain overcast and we can expect some interruptions due to rain.
According to us, Sydney Thunder start this match as the favorite to win. They have played well throughout this season and we expect them to continue to do so. The Sixers will struggle to bounce back against such a strong opposition.
Bet on Sydney Thunder W to win.
