This is a decent shout because the Renegades Women hit six runs for no loss in their first over against the Hurricanes Women in the T20 Spring Challenge against the bowling of Molly Strano.
This would be a reasonable bet. Both teams hit a boundary four in the first over of their innings when they last met. Looking to make a fast start, the opening batters may hit a boundary early again.
This should be a thrilling contest on the field with a host of quality cricketers on both sides. This will also be an important encounter in terms of the log because the teams are only separated by two points. A win or loss here will have significant consequences with both the Hurricanes Women and Renegades Women in and around the play-off spots.
The Hurricanes Women dominate on head-to-head record in the last five fixtures having won four of the five matches. The Renegades Women won their most recent fixture against each other by five wickets. Overall, the Hurricanes Women have only won two of their last five games compared to the Renegades Women with four wins in their last five games.
The 35th match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024 will take place between the Hobart Hurricanes Women and Melbourne Renegades Women. The action will be shown in India on the Star Sports Network and the Disney+ Hotstar app.
The Hurricanes Women will be looking to bounce back from a loss on the road with the security of playing in home conditions. They will have a tough ask against a team in form though.
Lizelle Lee is a dynamic wicket-keeper and aggressive opening batter. She has more than 400 runs across her last ten WBBL matches and hit a century in her last home game. Suzie Bates provides class in the top-order.
Elyse Villani adds valuable experience and leadership to the batting unit as an experienced player and captain. She hit 44 runs against the Strikers Women. South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon offers game-changing potential with her explosive hitting and useful left-arm spin.
The team's bowling attack is equally impressive and led by Nicola Carey and Molly Strano. Carey is a pace-bowling all-rounder with international experience and the ability to make an impact with the ball. Off-spinner Strano will be a wicket-taking option in the middle overs.
She has just over a-wicket-a-game in her last nine WBBL games. Heather Graham and Amy Smith give additional bowling depth to the squad. Smith starred with three wickets against the Strikers ladies in Adelaide.
The visitors are hot in form having won four of their last five WBBL games, including their most recent game against rivals the Melbourne Stars Women. They have a sprinkling of world-class players in their lineup who could produce some powerful individual performances.
Captain Hayley Matthews will bring Caribbean flair. Matthews is a skilled all-rounder from the West Indies who will show off her explosive batting and clever right-arm off-spin. As one of the stars of the show, the West Indian has 195 runs and 11 wickets in her last seven WBBL games.
She is supported by Deandra Dottin’s powerful hitting and athletic fielding. Alice Capsey is a rising English talent who has shown promise in white-ball cricket internationally.
The team's batting unit is bolstered by Naomi Stalenberg and Ella Hayward. Nicole Faltum provides solidity behind the stumps as a reliable wicket-keeper. She single-handedly won the game against the Stars Women. Georgia Wareham, a talented leg-spinner, offers control and wicket-taking ability in the middle overs and can add value with quickfire runs.
Supported by the medium pace of Sarah Coyte and Georgia Prestwidge, the team has a well-rounded attack. All of Hayley Matthews, Deandra Dottin and Sarah Coyte chipped in with two wickets each in the Melbourne derby.
Both captains may prefer batting first to put scoreboard pressure on their opposition. The Renegades Women won the toss and chose to bat first in their previous match. The Hurricanes Women were victims of a loss when they batted second against the Adelaide Strikers Women.
The pitch at Bellerive Oval is expected to offer a balanced and fair contest between batters and bowlers. The pitch should provide a competitive environment for both aspects of the game, making it an exciting pitch for players and spectators alike. After early assistance for the seam and swing bowlers, the surface should allow the batters to find their rhythm with run-scoring.
The home side scored 191 for two in 20 overs when they played their previous home game. Lizelle Lee hit a century on this surface.
Rain shouldn’t be a major factor in this match with only a six percent chance of rain. Overhead conditions are partly cloudy while being moderately warm and slightly humid.
The Hobart Hurricanes were outclassed in their previous game by the skill and temperament of Madeline Penna with the bat and Tahlia McGrath with a wicket-filled and economical spell of bowling. The Renegades enjoyed the opposite fortunes with a win in the Melbourne derby.
The Renegades ladies have momentum behind them and the confidence to come back from disastrous positions.
Bet on Melbourne Renegades Women to win the match.
