While both sides have some talented batsmen, the pitch at the Grand Prairie Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on. Since this is the first time that both teams will be playing here, it will be a bit difficult for them to get going.
The Netherlands is expected to open with the newly minted pair of Max ODowd and Michael Levitt. The duo has put together 291 runs in 7 innings at an average of 41.57, including 3 half-century stands in the last 4 innings. They therefore have a good chance of putting up a higher partnership in this game as well.
The Netherlands will face off against Nepal for a Group D fixture on Tuesday as both teams kick off their T20 World Cup campaign at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
The two teams have faced each other in 12 T20 internationals to date. There is little separating the two teams as the Netherlands has won 6 matches, while Nepal has won 5. 1 match ended in a no-result.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched on the Star Sports Network.
The Netherlands has been growing from strength to strength in the last couple of years. They played some excellent cricket in the previous T20 World Cup edition and finished in the Top 8. As a result, they became the only non-Full Member to earn an automatic qualification based on their performance.
With two of its key players, Colin Ackermann and Roelof van der Merwe set to miss out on this tournament, the Netherlands will rely on its core players to deliver the goods. Skipper Scott Edwards, Max ODowd, Vikramjit Singh, Teja Nidamanuru, and Bas de Leede put up some impressive performances during the most recent ODI World Cup and will hope to replicate the same.
Young Michael Levitt, who scored a century against Namibia earlier this year gets rewarded with a place in the squad.
Logan van Beek will lead the pace attack alongside Paul van Meekeren and Vivian Kingma while Aryan Dutt and Tim Pringle will feature in the spin department.
The advantage that the Netherlands has is that a number of its players play relatively high-quality cricket consistently for the English counties. That makes them a lot better prepared for the big stage than a team like Nepal.
Nepal put up a good show during the recent World Cup Asia qualifiers as they finished among the top two teams on the table. As a result, they earned their first-ever T20 World Cup spot since 2014.
Nepal will bank on its strong and experienced batting line-up to deliver the goods here. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh make up for a good opening pair but the team’s real strength lies in its middle order. Dipendra Singh Airee is in particularly good form of late and will have the support of skipper Rohit Paudel, Sompal Kami, and Kushal Malla.
We can see Nepal getting to par totals consistently in this edition of the T20 World Cup especially against some of the associate nations that it will play against.
Karan KC and Gulsan Jha are likely to begin the attack with the new ball and will be supported by Sompal Kami. As Sandeep Lamichhane's participation in this match is uncertain, it leaves Lalit Rajbanshi as the only quality spinner on the squad.
Nepal will hope that the conditions are low and slow as that is what they are used to.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Grand Prairie Stadium is well-balanced. The seamers will be able to extract some movement when the ball is new but once it gets a bit older, the batsmen will be able to play their shots. That said, the spinners can expect some help from the surface throughout the match.
A total of around 160-170 will be pretty competitive.
The weather is likely to remain cloudy with occasional showers. The temperature will remain over 30 degrees.
Both, the Netherlands and Nepal have a reputation for creating upsets and we can expect a close encounter between them. That said, we feel that the Netherlands has a better chance of ending on top, especially looking at its recent performances in World Cup events.
Bet on the Netherlands to win.
