Travis Head and David Warner have a decent record as an opening pair and have scored 112 runs in 4 innings. On the other hand, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das have managed just 68 runs in the same time.
Tanzim Hasan has bowled brilliantly in the last few matches. He has picked up 8 wickets in his last 3 games and was the top bowler for the team in 2 of them. Looking at his good form, we are backing him to bowl yet another good spell.
Bangladesh will kick off their Super 8 journey on Thursday as they take on Australia in a Group 1 fixture. The two teams will face off at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
The two teams have faced each other in 10 matches to date. Australia has won 6 of those games, while Bangladesh has won 4.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
Australia, who are perineal favorites to win an ICC tournament, cruised their way to the Super 8. They will now look to gain an early lead before facing the heavyweights of the group.
Australia will depend on Travis Head and David Warner to give them a strong start during the Powerplay. The duo has played well individually in the last few innings but will need to do better as a pair. More will be expected from Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, and Tim David, who are yet to make a significant contribution with the bat.
With Marcus Stoinis being the only genuine all-rounder, Australia may find itself a bit vulnerable if they lose quick wickets.
If you go just by names, Australia has plenty big ones in its camp. However, the conditions are a bit spin-friendly and that is where theeir batters can struggle.
Coming to the bowling, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have been unable to replicate their success from the IPL and have managed to pick up just 5 wickets between them. Nevertheless, it is just a matter of time before they get going. Adam Zampa will be the key bowler for them. He is in good form with 9 wickets.
We could see Ashton Agar keep his place in the side as well if the pitch looks a bit dry.
Clubbed in one of the strongest groups during the initial stage, Bangladesh played well to defeat Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Netherlands to book a place in the Super 8. However, the team will not have to step up its game if it wants to continue its journey further.
Bangladesh's batting, particularly from the top order, hasn’t been the best. Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Litton Das are all averaging under 15 runs, and that will need to change if the team wants to win here. The middle order has fared better, with the likes of Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al-Hasan, and Mahmudullah chipping in at various stages of the tournament.
We think bangladesh's batting is very well-suited for conditions where the scores do not go above 170. If the match is mid to low-scoring, its batters will be able to take their team and accumulate runs rather than attacking from the first ball.
Bangladesh’s biggest strength lies in its bowling. Tanzim Hasan Sakib is in red-hot form and has picked up 8 wickets in his last 3 outings. He will be joined by Mustafizur Rahman, who has an extraordinary economy rate of 3.37, and Taskin Ahmed. Rishad Hossain, who has picked up 7 wickets, is also likely to play an important role on this pitch.
Give this bowling attack a bit of help and it can certainly overturn the Aussie batting lineup.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium isn’t the easiest for the batsmen. The ball grips the surface and there is plenty of turn for the spinners. While things do get progressively better as the game goes on, anything over 160 will be tricky to chase.
The weather is expected to be warm and humid with temperatures of around 28 degrees.
Australia naturally starts as the favorite on all betting sites. However, given the lucrative odds that are being offered for Bangladesh, it might just be worth putting a punt on them. They have an excellent bowling line-up. Also, Bangladesh has a habit of creating upsets on the big stage.
Bet on Bangladesh to win.
