This is a likely outcome when looking at the previous match between the teams. The first over of the match between Pretoria and Joburg in Johannesburg featured three dot balls with one of those being a wicket too.
The right-handed opening batter from England will be brutal against any bowling which is errs in line or length. The destructive opener has hit 239 runs in his last ten SA20 innings while striking at almost 140. He should be a safe bet in home conditions.
This Gauteng derby should bring the best out of both teams. The conditions on the day should suit entertaining cricket with the ball flying to the boundary regularly. The clever cricket brain of Faf du Plessis could be the difference between the captains. The Joburg Super Kings will look to finish the job they started in Johannesburg before rain halted play with a win in Pretoria.
The last two games between Pretoria and Joburg has been marred by weather with back-to-back no results. The three prior games have given the Super Kings two wins and the Capitals have won once.
This SA20 derby between two Gauteng rivals, Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings, will be played on Tuesday, 28 January 2025 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The match will be broadcast on the Star Sports 2 Network and streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar app in India.
At the top, Will Jacks and Rahmanullah Gurbaz form a dynamic opening pair that will look to play with fearless power-hitting. Jacks showed off his talent with a half-century at Boland Park. Gurbaz has a batting high score of 121 not out in T20s.
Local talent Marques Ackerman adds stability in the middle order and rotation of strike. Skipper Rilee Rossouw, a proven match-winner, brings aggression and experience. Rossouw has over 9000 T20 runs.
Wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne lends reliability and finesse with his wristy shots. He hit a slow and steady 30 runs against Paarl. All-rounder James Neesham brings balance with his big-hitting and seam bowling.
Young Keagan Lion-Cachet offers promise as an emerging talent to finish the innings. Spin-bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy and left-arm spinner Kyle Simmonds add depth and control in the middle overs with the ball. Both are wicket-takers who can also control the run rate.
Muthusamy bowled a tidy four-over spell of one for 15 against the Paarl Royals. Simmonds has over 50 wickets in T20s.
In the pace department, Eathan Bosch provides youthful energy. He took three wickets against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The experienced Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff is a proven death-overs magician and equally capable of early wickets with the swinging new ball.
Experienced Protea Faf du Plessis is an elegant stroke-player filled with tactical acumen. He brought up 400 T20 matches in his previous match. At the top of the order beside him is the consistent Devon Conway.
The Black Cap Conway hit 76 runs unbeaten against the Sunrisers in Johannesburg. Wihan Lubbe provides explosive hitting power to get the scoreboard moving along. He is seven runs short of 400 SA20 runs.
Adding international star power is Jonny Bairstow. The wicketkeeper-batter is no stranger to blasting teams away with the bat. Moeen Ali brings balance to the side as an all-rounder. He is an all-rounder not only in the sense of being a key batter and bowler, but is versatile in being able to operate at any stage of the innings.
The experienced all-rounder has more than 7000 T20 runs and almost 250 T20 wickets. The promising Donovan Ferreira and hard-hitting Evan Jones add more middle-order firepower.
Imran Tahir is a veteran leg-spinner who remains a wicket-taking threat in his four overs. Young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana adds raw pace and excitement with his unique slingy action. Lutho Sipamla and Hardus Viljoen provide valuable fast-bowling options on a pitch with bounce and seam to round out a dangerous attack.
Sipamla gave a match-winning contribution of three for 13 at the Wanderers in his previous match. Viljoen supported his fellow fast bowler with four for 24.
The team winning the toss could be in favour of chasing. The Super Kings were in a strong position to chase the 139-run target set by Pretoria in Johannesburg before the game ended earlier than expected.
The SuperSport Park pitch in day/night T20s is known for being batter-friendly. The venue has a quick outfield and small boundaries that make it ideal for high-scoring games. The pitch tends to favour the seamers early on with movement off the pitch combined with good bounce and carry.
The bowlers who can generate pace and movement will be more effective, while batters who can effectively find the gaps will generate boundaries at will. Pretoria Capitals scored 212 for five in 20 overs in their previous game at SuperSport Park.
The weather at Centurion on Tuesday is set to be sunny. That brings warm and moderately humid temperatures. There is no chance of rain between the Capitals and Super Kings this time.
This could be considered an unofficial knockout match as the number of games left decreases rapidly. Both teams have been lingering towards the bottom of the table this season. A loss for either team could all but hammer the nail in the coffin for either team’s SA20 2025 campaign.
Pretoria Capitals will need to bat better this time around, but will have a stern test against a Joburg Super Kings bowling lineup in form.
Bet on Joburg Super Kings to win this match.
