In the previous game that Durban’s Super Giants met MI Cape Town at Newlands, they only managed four sixes. With world-class bowlers in Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan in the MI Cape Town side, this bet should come to fruition.
The opening batter is an experienced T20 cricketer with a sound knowledge of the different batting conditions around the country. He should be a solid bet. Van der Dussen was on 35 runs not out before the rain forced a no result against the Super Giants in Durban.
The Durban’s Super Giants will be clinging onto their history against MI Cape Town after never losing to them. That may not count for much against an MI Cape Town team which put in a dominant performance against the Joburg Super Kings in their previous home game. MI Cape Town have been powerful at Newlands this season.
The previous match between the teams was rained off in Durban. Outside of that game, MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants have met four times with the Super Giants winning all of those.
MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants will do battle on Saturday, 25 January 2025 at Newlands, Cape Town. This SA20 match is available to India via the Star Sports 2 Network TV broadcast and the Disney+ Hotstar app live-streaming.
Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks form a reliable batting partnership. They have a strong understanding of each other from playing domestic cricket at the Lions together. Van der Dussen has one century and three half-centuries in his SA20 career.
Hendricks has three half-centuries in the SA20, including one half-century against the Paarl Royals this season. Young star Dewald “Baby AB” Brevis will look to play with flair and freedom in front of the Newlands faithful. Young Brevis is 14 runs short of 500 SA20 runs.
The exuberance of youth in Brevis is complemented by Colin Ingram’s vast T20 expertise. Ryan Rickelton will handle wicketkeeping duties while also being a key individual in the opening batting spot.
All-rounders George Linde and Delano Potgieter provide depth in all three departments of the game. Potgieter took a five-wicket haul in his first SA20 game this season. Rashid Khan will oversee all things tactically and is one of MI Cape Town’s key wicket-taking threats after the powerplay.
The pace department is world-class with Kagiso Rabada’s fiery pace and Trent Boult’s left-arm swing with the new ball. Rabada has seven four-wicket hauls in T20s. Corbin Bosch offers a handy third seam option to continue the wicket-taking assault. He is one wicket short of 50 T20 wickets.
Leading the batting charge is Quinton de Kock. The wicketkeeper-batter will look to set the tone in the powerplay. He hit 43 runs in his previous game. As the other half of the opening duo is Matthew Breetzke. The right-hander will look to command the crease in the early stages. He has 629 runs in the SA20.
Kane Williamson adds composure in the top order to get the team through their tough moments.
Heinrich Klaasen and JJ Smuts form a powerful middle-order duo capable of accelerating the scoring and playing the situation to perfection. Smuts hit an impressive 32 runs against Paarl Royals. All-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Chris Woakes enhance the versatility of the team to cover every aspect of the game.
Mulder has 12 half-centuries and a four-wicket haul in T20s. Woakes has a combo of more than 1000 runs and almost 180 wickets in T20s.
The bowling lineup is headlined by captain Keshav Maharaj as a leader in the field and wicket-taker with his left-arm spin. Junior Dala and Naveen-ul-Haq bring pace and variety with the new ball to take wickets in the opening overs.
Dala took two wickets against the Royals in Durban. Rising star Noor Ahmad adds mystery spin to outfox opposition batters. The young wrist-spinner has seven wickets in his four previous matches.
This could be a wicket where both captains will want to chase under the floodlights. The previous match at Newlands was won by MI Cape Town when they chased against the Joburg Super Kings.
The pitch at Newlands should provide a surface with even bounce and pace. The seam bowlers should get some assistance with the new ball with early swing and seam movement. The batters should enjoy scoring runs freely after an initial stage that they’ll need to see out.
Both teams batting first at Newlands this season have managed 172 runs in their 20 overs.
The weather on matchday at Newlands is expected to be hot and humid. There should be a gentle breeze of wind too. Rain won’t be a factor to worry about with no chance of rain.
MI Cape Town will return to a ground which has not failed them this tournament. They have won all their home games in 2025 and will be strong favourites to beat the Super Giants at Newlands. The only points that the Durban team have picked up on the road are from a no-result in Centurion against the Pretoria Capitals.
Bet on MI Cape Town to win this match.
