Australia’s opening pair hasn’t been in the best of forms in this tournament. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthews Short have failed to make much of an impact and have put up partnerships of less than 24 runs in both matches. We expect their struggles to continue on this difficult track.
Rauf has bowled well in this tournament and is the leading wicket-taker with 8 wickets. He was the top bowler for Pakistan in both the matches and with another good surface on offer, we are backing him to bowl a good spell.
With the 3-match series perfectly balanced at 1-1, Australia will face Pakistan for the final ODI on Sunday in a bid to claim the series. The two teams will clash at the Perth Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 110 games to date. Australia won 71 of those while Pakistan won 35. Three matches ended without any result while one was a tie.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. You can also watch this match live on the Star Sports Network.
After barely scraping through in the first ODI, Australia was outdone by Pakistan on Friday as it suffered its first loss against Pakistan at home in 7 years.
It was yet again a poor batting effort from the hosts as they were dismissed for an under-par score of 163 on what was a decent batting surface. They must now bounce back in less than 48 hours and fight to save the series.
It seems all the more difficult for them as some of the key performers will be unavailable for this game due to the upcoming Test series against India.
While Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short are likely to open the batting, the absence of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne is likely to open the doors for Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott. Josh Inglis will lead the team in this match. He himself is in decent form with the bat but needs to do better.
Perhaps the biggest weakness for the hosts is likely to be its seam attack. With Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood unavailable, Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett could open the attack with the new ball. Adam Zampa remains the sole full-time spinner.
Pakistan will be elated with the historic win it achieved in the last match. They will now hope to continue with the same momentum and claim its first bilateral series win in Australia since 2002.
Pakistan’s seamers were at the top of their game as they brought Australia’s batting line-up to its knees. Haris Rauf was in red-hot form as he clinched a fifer and is now the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 8 wickets. He has been ably supported by Mohammad Hasnain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah.
Such has been the performance of Pakistan’s seamers that they have hardly missed the absence of a good spinner during the middle overs. The batting was rock-solid on Friday with both owners scoring individual half-centuries.
The middle order is pretty strong as well thanks to the presence of Babar Azam Mohammad Rizwan, and Agha Salman. Overall, Pakistan will feel pretty confident as it heads into this virtual final.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The Perth Stadium has hosted only 2 ODIs to date, with the latest one being played in 2018. The average first-inning score here is around 206. The seamers will get plenty of help as the surface is hard and has an even covering of grass. The ball moves around quite a bit and the batsmen will have a hard time playing the big shots.
While things do improve once the ball gets older, the batting side will need to earn its runs on this pitch.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 21 degrees.
While Pakistan started this series as the underdogs, their performance in the last match has shown that the team is capable of throwing a surprise when it is least expected from them. With Australia’s bench significantly weakened, we feel that Pakistan has a real chance of winning the game.
Bet on Pakistan to win.
