Jos Buttler hasn't got going yet but a flat Wankhede surface could be the catalyst for a big show. This is a cheap quote on 25-game form with Buttler winning 56% of the time, giving punters a two per cent edge. Buttler averages 35 at the venue and strikes at 147. We shouldn't have to wait long for a winner therefore. He also averages 63 against MI.
The Mumbai Indians may be the favorite to win its next match against the Rajasthan Royals but the two teams could not have had a more different opening few matches. MI has lost both its matches and sits at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings while RR has won both its matches and is looking like a serious contenders for the playoff berths.
Can MI get off the mark and start to turn things around?
There have been 29 matches played between MI and RR so far. MI has won 16 out of those matches while RR has won 13. MI has also won four out of the previous five matches aganst RR. At the Wankhede, MI has won five out of the eight matches that it has played against RR.
The match ius going to be available for streaming on the Jio Cinema App and will also be broadcast on the Star Sports network of channels.
MI lost a game it should have won against GT and then was at the recieveing end of a record-breaking score against SRH. If you are someone that looks at the positives, you will focus on the fact that MI scored 246 in response to 277.
Now, looking ahead at the match against RR, we don't expect MI to make too many changes. In fact, it may very well continue with the same lineup that it has used so far. There will be a temptation to swap out Kwena Maphaka or even Gerald Coetzee but we hope they both get another chance.
MI's bigger problem is its tactics while bowling. They need to stop using Jasprit Bumrah exclusively in the second-half of the bowling stint and utilize him to make an impact up font as well. the lack of quality spin-options is hurting them and they don't really have an option in the squad either. This makes Hardik's use of himself as a bowler all the more important as well.
The batting is in better shape and now that almost all the batters have scored a few runs, MI should be more confident of getting the runs it needs. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma, and Tim David form a very strong batting lineup in current form.
We think Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir offer excellent value for bettors looking to back them in individual runs markets.
The challenge for MI is going to be to get its bowling to do the job against a very strong RR batting lineup. If that happens, we could see MI winning its first match of the season.
RR has been exceptional in the IPL 2024 so far. They have managed to score the runs needed without a single big score from Yashasvi Jaiswal or Jos Buttler. Both of them enjoy batting at the Wankhede and so this could be their time to shine but the emergence of Riyan Parag, the continued brilliance of Sanju Samson, and the big-hitting abilities of Shimron Hetmyer are proving to be massive pillars of success for RR.
In good batting conditions, it is easy to see this RR batting lineup take the game to MI and overpower them with their big hitting abilities.
Riyan Parag stitched together six consecutive fities in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. he has started IPL 2024 with two consecutive big scores and will be hoping to make a case for himself for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In current form, he is one of the most dangerous finishers going around and could be one to bet on.
RR's bowling is quite well-balanced. They have Trent Boult and Nandre Burger toi attack up front, Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin as the spin twins in the middle, and Avesh Khan to bowl at the death with support from Sandeep Sharma.
Everyone knowns what RR's tactics are going to be but that still does not make them easy to counter. The only real weakness that we can see in RR is a lack of batting depth, in comparison to MI. Playing R Ashwin in the top-7, as they did in the previous match, is not ideal and makes them vulnerable to early wickets.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. 8 out of the previous 10 matches have been won by the team that has batted second. This is a huge advantage and betting on the chasing team is not a bad strategy!
There are some clouds forecast on match day and the humidity shold be quite high but there is no rain expected. There will be some dew and that will make life tough for the spinners.
The average score batting first at the Wankhede in the previous 10 IPL matches is 187 but the average winning score batting first is 216! That shows just how much pressure there is on teams that bat first. If conditions are as expected, a high scoring match with plenty of sixes is in store.
Mumai Indians are playing at home and we have seen teams at home have a big advantage. However, we think the Rajasthan Royals have the team to be able to oull off an upset at the Wankhede Stadium. Just a couple of things need to go RR's way and they will end up registering their third consecutive victory.
Bet on the Rajasthan Royals to win.
